Bengals 2012

Post by blue53 »

A much better season than anybody could have predicted. Going into the off season, what do you think they need to pickup or draft.
I for one, think they need to start looking for a head coach. We've seen several talented teams come and go under him and none has played with an edge, or killer instict.

If they want to get rid of Lewis they could get creative and have Co-Head Coaches. With Zimmerman on defense and Gruden on offense. That would keep 2 of the good assistant coaches with the Bengals. Just a thought even though it will never happen.

As for players DB's and Offensive linemen. With Hall coming back from an injury still not sure if he can come back as the same player he was before. They have Jones and Nelson who could not play for other teams but were better than what the Bengals had. The offensive line needs to play better to protect Dalton and make it easier to find a talented receiver.

Running backs and a pass rushing linebacker. Running backs they need more than one which seems to be working for many teams. The Bengals do not get much of a pass rush with their linebackers. Which can be a big game changer. As well as making the talented D-Line players even more effective.

A standout kick returner. The Bengals have dependable but no game changer.

With all the draft picks they may also look to make some trades. Also some free agents may want to come play for this young and upcoming team.

Marvin isn't going anywhere,Mikey seems to be in love with him and Marvin has even acted like he wants out of there and Mikey won't let him go,,one coach I hope stays is Gruden, the offense was so much more exciting this year with him there and I'm sure the new players had a lot to do with it also

Package the first round draft picks to move up to take Richardson out of Bama that way we can let Benson go. This team is young and played the second half of the playoff game like a young team that was losing. As for head coach, lose Lewis and try to talk the other Gruden out of the announcers area.

I've heard Zimmer and grudens name both batted around as head coaches, but it was for other teams. I would much rather see one of these guys promoted to h.c then to lose one of them.
benson is not a game changer and needs replaced. Pacman looked to be on the slow side tonight. I just hope Hall makes it back as good as before. bengals has some cap room to play with now that palmer is traded off.

Two first round picks will help big time i think you keep them take a corner with one and either a runningback safety or lineman with the other. Positions that need to be drafted Runningback Corner Reciever O-Line Safety ! Get rid of Crocker and Benson. Lewis needs to go head coaches id like to see us get Gruden Cowher Billick Zimmer. Some of the needs can be adressed in fa like running back and o-line. Cant wait to see what they do should be an interesting off season !

Buccaneers received permission to interview Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer for their head coaching job.

Grudon, didnot go to interview. Sighs a 3 year deal with bengals. Said he wants to stay and help dalton.

you never know who's out there waiting to be the next defensive god like coach.
I wouldn't want to lose zimmer either. I'd rather see Marvin go and Zimmer get the
head coach spot.

Mike Zimmer

The Tampa Tribune confirmed via an NFL source Friday that Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has received permission to talk to the Buccaneers about their head coaching position. That puts Zimmer in play with two teams after Jeff Fisher took the Rams job Friday afternoon.

Zimmer, who has led the Bengals defense to two top 10 finishes during his four seasons as coordinator, interviewed with the Dolphins earlier this week. A favorite has yet to emerge in either city and Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray have joined Zimmer as an addition to the Bucs derby. They join a trio of former NFL head coaches already in the mix: Marty Schottenheimer, Brad Childress and Mike Sherman.

In Miami, Zimmer is on a less experienced list that includes Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Bears special teams coach Dave Toub.

If Zimmer gets one of the jobs, the speculation for the leading in-house candidate to replace him is secondary coach Kevin Coyle. Coyle just finished his 11th season with the club after a college career he was the defensive coordinator at Holy Cross, Syracuse, Maryland and Fresno State.

I don't see Zimmer getting Tampa Bay job, I believe that one is going to Marty Shottenheimer, as for Miami I don't think they know what they want, so Zimmer may be back with Cincinnati next season(if we are truly lucky).

CINCINNATI — WLWT.com
A Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver has been indicted after a drug shipment was delivered to his home last fall.
Jerome Simpson was indicted on one count of trafficking marijuana by a grand jury on Thursday, according to Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders. Simpson faces 1 to 5 years in prison if convicted, Sanders said.
The indictment alleges that Simpson "knowingly and unlawfully possessed more than 8oz of marijuana with the intent to traffic in marijuana."
Sanders told News 5's Laura Borchers that Simpson has been cooperative in the investigation and would be eligible for a diversion program.
Authorities previously said Simpson and Anthony Collins were at Simpson's northern Kentucky home in September when Simpson's girlfriend, Aleen Smith, 27, signed for a package containing 2.5 pounds of high-grade marijuana.
A California Department of Justice spokeswoman said at the time that investigators searched Simpson's home with his permission and found six more pounds of pot along with other related items such as packaging materials, scales and smoking devices.
Collins was cleared, but the investigation of Simpson continued. Simpson played the remainder of the Bengals' games this season.

Seems like they might be working a deal with him. they waited all of this time "until after the season" to indict him? Plus they are throwing out the diversion plan. I just wonder what the NFL will do with him now.

here is something I found about Kentucky's diversion program.

http://nky-criminal-defense.com/2010/03 ... -kentucky/
There are two types of Diversion programs in Kentucky, one for felonies and one for misdemeanors/violations.

For felonies, the program is directed by statute and only applies to Class D, non-violent, first time offenders. The Commonwealth’s Attorney must agree to send the charge to Diversion. Once that occurs the defendant is required to plead guilty to the offense. The matter is then sent to the Probation Department for a Pre-Sentence Investigation. If that report comes back confirming that the defendant is eligible the judge will approve entry into the diversion program. If the investigation comes back that the defendant is ineligible, that finding may be challenged or the defendant may request to withdraw his/her plea and start the case again.

Once placed into the Diversion program the defendant has numerous conditions that must be met (treatment for substance abuse, random screens, restitution, no new offenses etc). If those conditions are met, the charge is dismissed at the end of the diversion period (and may later be expunged). The diversion period is generally 3-5 years in length on a felony. While the diversion period is ongoing, the charge remains active and will likely show up on employment background checks as a “pending” charge.

Misdemeanor diversion varies from county to county. Generally, it is required that the defendant be a first time offender (sometimes defined as “first time in Kentucky”), non violent, non DUI (except Jefferson County). For a misdemeanor it does not matter what Class it is. Most counties do not require a plea to be entered before entering the program. However, the conditions that must be met are much like the felony diversion program (restitution, treatment, no new offenses) though the period is much smaller (generally a matter of months).

The benefit to either program is that, if successfully completed, your record remains clean at the end. However, if the conditions are not met and diversion is unsuccessfully terminated, you will be right back where you started. It takes a commitment, but often times it can be a great second chance.
