Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger “got his bell rung” and will go for further testing on Monday to determine if he suffered a concussion on Sunday, according to a league source.

Signs were positive that the injury was not a major setback, and Roethlisberger’s status for Sunday’s AFC North showdown at Baltimore will be determined later this week.

If somehow Roethlisberger can’t go, the Steelers would be in a world of trouble because they are also bracing for the likelihood they will be without veteran backup Charlie Batch for the duration of the regular season. Batch suffered a serious wrist injury after replacing Roethlisberger late in Sunday’s loss at Kansas City.

With inexperienced second-year pro Dennis Dixon as the team’s third-stringer, the Steelers have begun looking for help in the free-agent market, contacting veteran Cleo Lemon, according to a league source

We really won't be in much trouble if Ben can't play I mean yeah it's hard to replace him but Dixon is a pretty capable QB and we can just run the ball more. Ben will most likely play though.

Steelers won't win without Ben. He shouldn't start. they should be careful with him because most likely he suffered a concussion and should sit out for 1 maybe 2 games. You saw what happened to Westbrook when he played too early after suffering a concussion. I think they can still get a wild card spot even if they lose this game. I don't know how they are going to try to bring in a free agent who has never even played for them and have him practice for a week and expect him to be the savior either. They should start Dixon and steal a page out of the Broncos playbook (throw passes less than 10 yards down the field, nothing farther).

Ben should sit out and give his body a rest for all the shots he has taken this year. The Steelers need to find a backup QB and maybe Jeff Garcia could fill in well. This could also mean a shorter career for Ben.
It might be hard for the Steelers to change from passing so much to running the ball more. Time for other players to step up instead of waiting for Ben to make a play.

The word in pitt is ben is going to play even though they told him another shot in the head , could knock him out for the year. Who would hit him in the head for no reason in his up coming game(Ray Lewis) . Ben was fuzzy during the game , but came to on the way home. Im sorry , but my brain is more important than a game. He needs to heal a game or two.

If the Steelers don't start "sealing" the deal, it's not going to matter who's at QB.

I always thought Dixon was a steal in the draft for the Steelers.5 or 6th round if I remember right?

Dixon was a very good QB then hurt his knee. He could throw and run. This would be a tough week to put him out there against the Ravens. Like when Philly put Kolb in when they took McNabb out. It was hard for a backup come in without much practice against the Ravens defense. Would be wise to get Dixon a lot of snaps this week in practice anyway.

Big Ben is now out. With all the talk going on about concussions this call may have come from the owner since everything was cleared for Ben to start.
It might hurt the Steelers not signing a backup QB. They did sign former Pitt Panther QB Tyler Palko to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Roethlisberger out vs. Ravens

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will not play Sunday against the Ravens after suffering a concussion last week, according to a league source.

League sources told me on Friday that Roethlisberger was considering sitting out this week out of fear of taking additional blows to the head. Roethlisberger experienced some slight headaches recently and though he wanted to play all week, he will not given the severity of head injuries.

Second-year QB Dennis Dixon will make his first NFL start against the Ravens.

There is a small chance Roethlisberger could serve as an emergency quarterback, according to a league source, although that looks remote at this point. A final decision will come 90 minutes before kickoff, but at this point all parties involved are planning on Roethlisberger not suiting up in any capacity.

The Steelers have followed all league measures regarding clearance for concussions, and the Pro Bowler was cleared to practice all week.
