Reds offseason

Figured i'd create a thread to keep up with the Reds offseason. If one already exists I apologize.
-So they've signed Dontrelle Willis in hopes of him making a comeback.
-Just recently signed Arroyo to an extension at 3 years for 35 million.
-In preliminary talks with Joey Votto about a multi year deal.
I'm anxious to see how the deals for the all arbitration eligible players turn out. Bruce has commented that he wants a multiyear deal while Votto has kept quiet about it. They are in need of a leadoff hitter so at the GM meetings in Orlando I wouldn't be surprised to see a starting pitcher go since they are loaded.

The reds are looking for a leadoff hitter. Names that have come up are maybe trading for the Pirates Andrew Mcutchen or signing Scott Podsednik. The Reds need to get some bench players back. Cairo and Nix both are free agents. The Res have said if they make a move durring winter meetings, it will most likely be via-trade. Another bullpen pitcher would also help. I'd like to see up trade Cordero too free up some cap room.

I would also like to see Cordero go. He's too inconsistent to be making that much money. I personally would like to see them keep Wood and Leake. Who knows if Bailey will ever live up to the hype everyone has given him. I guess being loaded at SP is always good but if they trade for someone to bat leadoff i'm sure a SP will go. Its going to be hard to trade Cordero but even if they do i'm sure they will have to pay some of his contract to get a team to bite.

I don't know how they could have traded him when they refused the option on him for this year.

He wasn't traded. Glad he found another team though maybe he can turn it back around. The Padres got him at a bargain for 3.5 and he gets to go home so it works out for both sides.

The Reds just re-signed free agent Miguel Cairo to a 2 year deal. It is his first multi year contract in his 15 year career. Jocketty said we got him pretty cheap even though figures weren't released.

Wow!
If the starting five live up to their potential, this could easily be one of the best rotations in the NL next year;
Edinson Volquez
Johnny Cueto
Aroldis Chapman
Dontrelle Willis
Bronson Arroyo
Plus you have Bailey, Maloney, Leake, and Wood who could fill in holes when someone needs a day off, or just play around with in the bullpen/rotating into the rotation.

Chapman will start in the bullpen. Willis probably wont make the rotation at the beginning but who knows. Arroyo, Volquez, and Cueto are locks to be in the rotation. I think it will be a toss up between Leake, Wood, and Bailey from there. Wood made a strong case when he was called up last year and I'd find it hard not to give him a spot especially with the numbers he put up against Philly. My guess would be that Bailey will end up being the odd man out with the final two rotation spots going to Leake and Wood. However it's hard telling what will happen out of spring training.

I think they definitely have to put Wood and Leake in the starting rotation. Leake carried the team in the early months but his arm tired after pitching so much last year in off season. Wood came up and shut the Phillies down, I still can't believe Baker didn't start him in the playoffs. Chapman is going to have to learn another pitch as a starter or they will time that fastball. He does have a nasty slider too. Volquez needs to get more consistent, one game he looks great the next he gives up 8 runs in the first inning. It will be interesting at least they have some talent to chose from this year.

The Reds signed Jay Bruce to a 6 year 51 mil contract with a 7th year option that could bring the total to 63 mil. It was announced on the Reds website. It will turn out to be a pretty good deal if he continues to improve.

I bet Votto won't agree to a deal no more than 3 years. I'll be shocked if they manage to get him at 4.

Willis and Chapman will be in the bullpen.
