Yes, I can my friend, but remember two names- Holmgren and Heckert. Managini never fit the mold that was cast AFTER he was hired so this turnover was inevitable. Mangini's only draft was a bust. He did get some effort out of his players but who is to say some other coach with the confidence of management would not do the same or better? If you take out the two over-acheiving wins against New Orleans and New England, you can't really say much about the rest of the season. Look at the other wins-anything earth-shaking there? My biggest concern is do we stay with a 3-4 defense or go to a 4-3? We would be wise to (maybe) keep the defensive staff intact and go with a new regime at the other end. Not that I'm giving Rob Ryan a vote of confidence but that side of the ball is OK for now. But there will be a new coach. As a Browns fan who has had to endure so many turnovers in coaches and front offices in the last 11 years, the thought of starting over again just tears me apart. Im getting too old for this crap, and one of the side effects of the turnover of head coach will almost certainly be a corresponding turnover in the rest of the coaching staff, including Ryan.
The Browns roster, while certainly much better than two years ago, is NOT on a par with the Steelers or Ravens so until the team gets even better, what chance do they have at the playoffs?
I cant help but remember back in the mid 90s when given a choice between Cowher (a former Browns player and current Browns position coach) and Belichick, Modell chose Belichick who alienated everyone in town from the word go, and even though he made strides with the Browns, the city never accepted him. He went to Baltimore but was replaced by Billick and you know how that worked out for him in New England.
I cant help but think Mangini will land on his feet and use this experience to become an even better head coach somewhere else, which will relegate the Browns franchise to a farm system for developing NFL head coaches.
Can you sense my frustration?
