BENGALS: McGlynn, who started the final three weeks in the regular season as well as the playoff game, posted on Twitter that he agreed on a deal to join the Indianapolis Colts. He was pushed into the starting lineup for the Bengals after Bobbie Williams broke his ankle. ... The team hosted four players for visits, all of which will extend into today: cornerbacks Tracy Porter (Saints) and Aaron Ross (Giants); defensive lineman Kendall Langford (Dolphins); and guard Jacob Bell (Rams). The best bet is for the Bengals to sign Langford and a cornerback today. Porter might have the edge over Ross because the former second-round pick is younger (25 years old). ... According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the free-agent visits for both running backs (BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Michael Bush) will now occur Monday. ... Left guard Nate Livings visited the Cowboys on Thursday.

No matter what happens with safety Reggie Nelson, the Bengals appear ready to make Jason Allen a full-time cornerback if their deal with him comes off as reported by NFL.com.

The league's Web site reported Saturday night that Allen has agreed to a two-year, $8.2 million deal with the Bengals, a deal that the club didn't confirm.

Meanwhile, Nelson mulled offers from the Bengals, Jets and a mystery team with expectations he'd make his call Sunday morning.

Just like the Bengals made Nelson a full-time safety when they got him in a trade with Jacksonville before the 2010 season, it's believed that the Bengals are going to use Allen only as a cornerback to supplement starters Nate Clements and Leon Hall and use as insurance for Hall's recovery from a torn Achilles.

With Hall hoping to take his first snap at training camp's first practice, Allen would get plenty of snaps opposite Clements during the spring drills. With the presence of third-rounder Brandon Ghee and the expected arrival of a rookie cornerback in the draft, the Bengals future of free agent Adam Jones, last year's third corner, is murky at best as well as that of free agent Kelly Jennings with four top corners already in the fold before the draft if Allen signs.

Allen took nearly 50 percent of the snaps as a backup in the Texans playoff run last season. A first-round pick of the Dolphins in 2006, Allen would become the fifth first-round corner to play for the club in the past two years. At 6-2, 200 pounds, he's got the size head coach Marvin Lewis loves and the willingness to tackle that defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer demands.

By the time the Bengals signed off on his contract Saturday afternoon, new Bengals left guard Travelle Wharton had a downtown dinner in Cincinnati with wife Kashema, huddled with offensive line coach Paul Alexander, talked on the phone with center Kyle Cook, and planned a trip back here as a couple next week to meet the staff.

If it sounds like Wharton is at home, he is. For a good part of his youth he spent every other summer traveling to Cincinnati from South Carolina for a family reunion, a product of the World War II migration to the north.

"Half of my grandmother's side moved to Cincinnati in the '40s. Her sister lived up on Reading Road," Wharton said. "I'm not sure where, but I'm sure when this hits the paper tomorrow I'll hear from them. I've got a lot of family here. A lot of cousins. That's why it's so unique to be here in Cincinnati."

Oh yeah. He can be sure it will hit the papers.

Even though nearly half the teams in the NFL hadn't signed a free agent by the time Wharton agreed to a three-year deal Friday, the Bengals' status as the team with the most room under the salary cap brought them the most scrutiny

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and Jets head coach Rex Ryan are two of the most persuasive men in the NFL. They don't get out-recruited very often when everything else is close. With Nelson returning to Lewis' Bengals with an undisclosed deal in free agency, Lewis won a big one Sunday.

Nelson revived his career in Cincinnati with a solid 2011 season in which he stared all 16 games for the first time in his five NFL seasons and led the team in interceptions with four and third in tackles and pass defensed. Nelson, a former first-round pick who went from the Jaguars dealing him for backup cornerback David Jones and a seventh rounder at the end of the 2010 preseason, to weighing two meaty offers. returns with Chris Crocker as defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's interchangeable safeties.

Crocker is coming off an off-season knee procedure, but is expected to do work during spring drills. They are also trying to get snaps for a trio of young safeties: Taylor Mays, Robert Sands, and Jeromy Miles.

Even before the Bengals knew they were getting Nelson back, they recruited defensive back Jason Allen as a cornerback and not a safety and he's expected to sign Monday. They would probably still consider Alabama safety Mark Barron with the 17th pick, but with the Jets picking at 16 and now faced with signing LaRon Landry he's virtually gone.

The Bengals' tour through free agency has brought them back their starting safety, a new starting left guard, and a cornerback that figures to play at least the third most snaps and maybe more depending on Leon Hall's recovery from an Achilles tear.

Next on their docket appears to be a defensive lineman and going off the visit list they have interest in Colts defensive end Jamaal Anderson. Plus, they're hosting running backs Michael Bush and Ben JarvisGreen in the next 48 hours, according to reports.

'The Law Firm' brings reliability to Bengals
March, 21, 2012
Mar 214:10PM ETEmailPrintComments429By Jamison HensleyThe Cincinnati Bengals added youth, security and some punch around the goal line Wednesday when they reached a three-year agreement with former New England Patriots running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a free agent.

What stands out about Green-Ellis?

His age. He's 26 years old, three years younger than the running back he's replacing, Cedric Benson.

His dependability. Green-Ellis has not turned the ball over in a span of four NFL seasons, which covers 53 games played and 510 rushing attempts. But you probably should expect such reliability from a running back nicknamed "The Law Firm." This is an improvement over Benson, who fumbled five times in two December games last season.

His ability to hammer the ball across the goal line. Green-Ellis led the Patriots with 24 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons. As a team, Cincinnati totaled 18 rushing touchdowns over that same span.

Look for them to go after a the safety from Alabama and then my suprise pick, Micheal Floyd from Notre Dame. Just another weapon in the passing game, just imagine: A.J. Green, Micheal Floyd, Jordan Shipley, Jermaine Gresham. That would have to be the best young receiver corp in the entire NFL.

Here is what all the Bengals have done so far with the FA market. I like the pick up of Ben Jarvus Green-Ellis. I think he was never used to his full potential in NE and he has the opportunity now to show waht he has.
