US Soccer beats Mexico
The US team won in a recent game in Mexico 1-0. Mexico just won the gold medal at the Olympics and it is the first time the US has beat them on their home turf in 75yrs going 0-24-1. Any thoughts on the win? Was it a fluke?

The U.S beat the Olyimpic champs but couldnt even qualify for the Olyimpics lol i think it was a good win but i bet Mexico didnt play some people or something !

When they got back to Mexico they started drinking their own water.
Wonder how much bottled water the US takes to Mexico with them?

I do not follow Mexican soccer that much but I do know their best player Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, who plays for English power Manchester United, played in this game. A back-up, whose parents ironically are both from Mexico, who failed to qualify for our national team that attempted to qualify for the Olympics was the one who scored the winning goal for the US near the end of the game.portsmouth_trojan59 wrote:The U.S beat the Olyimpic champs but couldnt even qualify for the Olyimpics lol i think it was a good win but i bet Mexico didnt play some people or something !

The Olympics comments are off-base.
The Olympic tournament is a U-23 tournament with a three over-age player allowance. Also, it's not seen as a big deal in the soccer/football community. It's nice for the U-23 squads but qualifying isn't taken seriously. Germany and many other top football nations didn't qualify for the tournament either.
As for the US Olympic qualifying, and it not being a big deal: FIFA requires clubs to release players to their national teams for qualifying for all big tournaments; it is not required for Olympic qualifying. Top US U-23 talent like Jozy Altidore did not play in that "crucial" qualifying match, they stayed with their club.
The U-23 team was celebrated at the match between the US & Mexico, as expected.
As for the match: It was an important win. It's the first time they have ever beaten Mexico in Azteca. What made it more impressive and a great sign, the US was effectively playing with their "B Team" (sans Tim Howard of course). Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, etc. did not play in this match and they still won. It is a great sign moving forward for US Soccer, and it's a big win for the confidence of the team knowing they can win in hostile territory.
