Orland0 (3-0) started fast but sizzled out from there, but still had enough in the tank to beat a winless Memphis (0-3)team by four points.
Orland took a 6-0 lead just 1:39 seconds into the game, when D'Ernest Johnson (South Florida) found the end zone from four yards out.
The lead grew to 9-0 on a 31 yard field goal by Elliott Fry (South Carolina), with 7:37 left in the quarter.
Christian Hackenberg (Penn State) was bad again and after the first half, that saw him go 8-14, 88 yards and 2 picks, he was on the bench the rest of the game. Zach Mettenberger (LSU) would have a nice 2nd half for Memphis (9-12, 120 yards and 2 TD'S). Mettenberger would throw a 30 yard touchdown to Devin Lucien (Arizona State), with 10:05 left in the third, to make this a 9-6 game.
Orlando would respond with a 37 yard pass from Garrett Gilbert (SMU) to Rannell Hall (UCF) making this 15-6 game, with 6:40 left in the third quarter.
Gilbert would go 14-28,207 yards with 1 TD. Not a great game, but he did not throw any picks and led his team to the win.
Josh Jasper (LSU) connected on a 27 yard field goal, making this a 15-9 game, with 14:11 left in the game.
Gilbert would run in from 21 yards out, with 9:07 left, making it a 21-9 game.
From there it would be Memphis who scored next, on a 40 yard pass from Mettenberger to Gerrard Sheppard (Towson), with 5:50 left, making this a 21- 15 game. Mettenberger hooked up with Anthony Manzo-Lewis (Albany) on the two point conversion to make the score 21-17.
Memphis notes
Davis Tull (Chattanooga) had a sack.
Orlando notes
Keith Reaser (Florida Atlantic) and Terence Garvin (West Virginia) each had a pick
