Valenth's Thoughts from Week 7...

Post by Valenth »

WOW What a great Day of College Football! Let me give some thoughts....

1. The PAC12 once again shoots themselves in the foot for a Potential Playoff Spot .. UCLA is their only hope.

After a Huge Win by the Utes... this really hurts the PAC12'S SHOT AT A potential Playoff Spot. But the only hope lies in the hands of the Bruins.

2. Bama goes down! Trap Game in my prediction from last week comes true!

Let's just face it. Alabama's defense is not that great. They are not disciplined. And once again the Penalty Bug Bit them BIG TIME.

3. B1G West team to beat.. Illinois?!

The Fighting Illini led by Big ol Bielema seems to be hitting the ground running! They took care of Minnesota.

Wisconsin gets thumped by Sparty an Nebraksa drops another game to the Boilermakers. The B1G West is now Illinois' to lose.

4. ACC.... Clemson.. thats all.

5. B1G East... Ohio State with the bye week (Which is some needed time for rest before getting into the meat of the Schedule) However after Michigan pretty much trounced Penn State... its looking like Michigan is the True Test for the Buckeyes down the Road.

6. BIG XII is all TCU... BUT if the Horned Frogs Lose.. The Door opens back up for the PAC12 for a Playoff spot.

With TCU taking Oklahoma State to the Brink... Baylor falling to WVU... Oklahoma taking care of a Much improved Kansas Team and Texas Getting by Iowa State... The BIG XII is in the same Boat as the PAC12.. these teams keep beating each other up.. they will knock their conference out of the chances for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

7. Boy oh Boy do we have some Serious Playoff implications in the SEC East now!

With Georgia destroying Vanderbilt and Tennessee downing Alabama... down the road this game is going to be a knock out drag out fight! Going to be a great game to watch In my Opinion. (I give Tennessee a TD edge right now.

My Prediction for the Top 10 teams...

1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Tennessee
4. Michigan
5. Clemson
6. Alabama
7. Ole Miss
8. TCU
9. UCLA
10. USC

Thoughts?

I doubt you'll see Tennessee jump TTUN in the polls since ttun pounced top 10 ranked Penn St.

Tennessee just about gave this game away by going away from their aggressive pass coverage and went to a soft coverage after getting an 18 pt lead.

The USC/Utah game was another GREAT game yesterday.

PAC12 and B12 will continue to eliminate their conferences chances at the playoffs from within. I don't see any teams from those conferences finishing with less than 2 losses. TCU probably has the best chance at havng only 1 loss this season, but there are no clear cut complete team in those conferences.

The Syracuse vs Clemson game could be very interesting down the road.......

Val's summary says it all.

Tennessee and Georgia between the hedges on November 5th will be must see television.

The polls this afternoon will be interesting. How high does Tennessee jump? How far does Bama fall? Will Ohio State be penalized for not playing?

Also, as much as we enjoyed Roll Tide being taken down, a wounded Alabama still controls the SEC West and still has a path to the playoffs.

Finally, College Football needed a year like this to rekindle interest. The resurgence of teams like Tennessee, Syracuse, UCLA, and Illinois among others is great for the health of the game.

I have noticed a History of Matchups on Teams in the top 10 and you get a scenario like 3 Alabama and 6 Tennessee..... I've seen many times where the AP decides to just Flip the Rankings between the teams if the higher ranked team loses. This is more likely to come into play knowing that USC took a Loss. And of course don't forget about the SEC Lovefest in the Media and the AP.

Indeed you were.

Just noticed in the poll that the top 4 play each other later on, the losers will drop, leaving Clemson in the catbird seat.

Val, we're gonna be stuck with that "lovefest" until some other conferences start knocking them off when it matters most in the playoffs. Like it or not they will always get the benefit of the doubt until that happens.
