Very excited to have Urban Meyer on the sidelines for the Buckeyes.........OSU will return to being a national championship contender...........hopefully the NCAA sanctions won't be too harsh, but whatever they are it won't take Meyer long to overcome them.

Michigan and OSU will be battling it out maybe twice a year now?

peake: I think it's inevitable that some time soon Michigan and Ohio State will play in the Big 10 championship game.........what if one team is undefeated going into the game yet loses the Big 10 championship game to the other?.........I wonder if the voters will treat Ohio State and Michigan the same way that Alabama and LSU are this year? Probably not because the Big 10 title game will be the last game, while LSU beat Alabama near the middle of the season.
I have no problem at all with LSU and Alabama playing for the national championship.......I just hope the voters realize that this sets up a precedent that could very well happen again........just maybe in the Big 10.........but I believe for that to happen the Big 10 has to establish the national credibility it has lost the last few years.

Thanks for the update ACC, I was at work this morning when the official word came in and logged in with my iPhone to see you were on it. So I didn't bother and was able to get some work done.
Tune into the 97.1thefan website to stream the press conference at 5:15.
Reports are that Fickell will be staying on the staff, and will likely be co-defensive coordinator with Stoops!
No word yet on bowl situation, but it's very likely that we get a OSU/UF draw in Gator Bowl.
Would be very interesting to see Urban coach the Buckeyes against UF in his first ever game at OSU.

It seems like when a Big Ten team is undefeated and then gets beat they fall a lot further down than the SEC doestrojandave wrote:peake: I think it's inevitable that some time soon Michigan and Ohio State will play in the Big 10 championship game.........what if one team is undefeated going into the game yet loses the Big 10 championship game to the other?.........I wonder if the voters will treat Ohio State and Michigan the same way that Alabama and LSU are this year? When Big 10 teams win 6 National championships in a row, that won't be a problem anymore.

Re: Scout.com reports Meyer, OSU agree to deal.
Some quick notes on Meyer's presser.
He wouldn't be coaching next year if it were any other school but OSU.
He took off a season, caught up with family, got his health straight, and consulted with other coaches on how to be a coach and a family guy as well.
He says he's back to the state of mind that he had when he first started at UF. And that the drive for perfection and the pressure to solve problems with NCAA, police, and drugs, problems that he couldn't fix but others could got to him.
He says he realizes that other people are better trained to do that, and he's realized how to let them do their jobs. He does not expect any health issues.
He said he hated the atmosphere that college football had become where he was, and that he knew of issues at schools around him that he didn't want any part of anymore.
He's keeping Fickell, and is adamant about bringing in the best staff in CFB.
Fickell will coach the bowl game, while Urban hires his staff and recruits.

Meyer on SEC gap: "I think you're going to see that gap closed, I hope, quickly."

On the economic footprint and importance of OSU over Florida, Darren Rovel points out:
For his contracts at Florida, Nike paid Meyer in between $200K & $500K/year. They'll be paying him $1.4M/year @ OSU.

Gene Smith says he's "hopeful" OSU hears a response from the NCAA by mid December..
And adds there is no precedent for a bowl ban.

Urban will be completely separate from bowl prep. Will visit practice, but not involved in game planning.

Luke Fickell made $775,000 this year as head coach. He will stay at that salary as defensive assistant

Shelly Meyer said this about his return:
"the only reason Urban and the family agreed he should return this year is because it's Ohio State."

Shelly on Urban's desire to keep Luke:
Shelly Meyer said one of most important things was keeping Luke Fickell. Have so much admiration for him after watching this season.

Other than Studwara from LSU, then other nice name popping up is Clemson's Chad Morris.

Meyer is currently on the phone with recruits, names like Se'Von Pittman and Kyle Dodson already popping up as potential flippers.

A comment from Spielman, on when they did the ESPN broadcast for Akron.
Chris Spielman on Urban Meyer's passion for Ohio State: “Watching him get excited when we did the Akron game, when I saw the passion and tears come to his eyes when the band came out doing 'Across The Field', right before we went on the air I said, 'Dude, you gotta get yourself together here, man. You gotta get it going.' his passion is there for Ohio State. He knows what he is. He's a Buckeye."
