I read some threads on CatPause this week. BG is on thin ice. Word is there will be attrition to make room for a few more of next years recruits.
I cant understand why so much transferring in college hoops. The Gators have 1 Sr., 1 Jr., 1 RSJr. transfer, 5 sophs., 6 freshmen.

I saw Doc Rivers' kid yesterday and he is tremendous. Cant wait til he is a 2011 Gator

hey it's not his fault he doesn't have but one talented player that is a jr or a sr. they played hard billy g coached hard they just came up a little short.

i thought for sure you would have seen the light by now. "He coached hard?" When did that ever matter at UK? I am sorry man, but you all didnt care how "hard" the last guy coached....and he actually won at home.

Theres always the SEC tourny. i know you guys dont care about winning Sec titles :122249 , but this year it will be your only shot

Maybe Pitino can come back and win one title again? If youre lucky, Pitino will come back, recruit a good group of kids in and then quit again. The new guy, who can coach, can then take that team to a championship. Not a bad plan. After pitino blows it again this year, maybe UK can get him back?? I think Pitino could coach the Celtics and lose...Oh wait, he already did that.

"we all" dont see it. I saw a guy who had unreal character who was and still is a perenial winner. He just wasnt a good fit at a program where expectations are not realistic. Kentucky made hay in an era where college basketball was not a phenomena nationally. the won tremendously in the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. Since the mid 80's when many of the ACC, Big East and other conferences have placed such an emphasis on the game, Kentucky is just another program. Right now you got. UCONN, UNC, DUKE, Oklahoma, TEXAS, Florida...etc...etc. the days of winning 27+ every year are over. Tubby Smith was a victim of that at UK.
That is ok. Tubby is well off and he is just continuing to win at minnesota, like he did everywhere else. it's what good coaches do. They win. He just so happens to be a class individual as well. that is rare in todays game.
Tubby was just the whipping boy at UK. Eventually the "Rupp" fans will die off and reality will set in. History will tell a different story for Smith. 50 years from now, history will tell a story of Tubby Smith, who was UK's second winningest coach and one of the all time great hall of famers.
Pitino has a tremendous ego, but not one big enough to return to UK. He knows he would have to win a title there. Too much pressure in todays game. Back in the day, kids went to UK because they were the only school that won. Now with many many schools with that reputation, the kids ask, why would i want to spend 4 years in Lexington? Also, Kentucky isnt producing the high school talent it once did.

hammerdown wrote:85 your going to tell me that tubby left the UK program in better shape than we he first got it?come on you know better than that. yes tubby wins whever he goes untill the previous coaches players leave then the downhill slide begins. as far as being the whipping boy nothing is farther from the truth. he had 10 years at UK which was about 3 years too long.you mentioned the other top schools ky was one when pitino left after tubby was finished it sure was not. UK was the victim of tubby's inability to get blue chip athletes and now billy g is paying for it. as far as kentucky not producing top basketball players when a blue chipper came along in chris lofton what did tubby do? he let him go to tennessee that's a real program builder huh?at least billy g is smart enough to keep a descent mr basketball in the state.
back in the day there were as many schools winning if not more than there is today. pitino competed (recruting wise) with arkansas, duke, north carolina, ucla.arizona and umass to name a few. ;-)
as far as tubby being a class act i have never denied that he wasn't he and his wife done a tremendous amount for the school and state. did he deserve some of the treatment he got of course not.billy g is starting to get the same kinda of slack tubby got and in some cases even worse so we can throw the race card out on that one.

I didnt say anything in my last post about the program being better or not. i also didnt bring up race again, you did. The first point I will not argue with you on. I have ALWAYS stated pitino could get the kids. he could sell ice cream to eskimos.
The second point I will always argue with you, because I have heard it with my own ears from UK fans. It is not a point I will argue further. Why would I? I heard it first hand.

Duke, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, even Arizona or UCONN were not perenial programs they are now, in the 50's through 80's. Duke started taking off in the mid 80's. It was UCLA, Carolina and Kentucky and everyone else was way back. Now, is different. Like I said before, Gillispie is losing in an inferior conference. if you take LSU and Florida out, the conference is terribly weak. Tennessee isnt even that good.

Where would UK be in the Big East? About 10-18 right now? Geesh.

They'll give him a longer rope, for reasons i believe, but i know you will disagree with. I do agree, however, Gillispie was a bad hire and it is time to move on. Was the "benching" move, an excuse to fall back on? maybe so he can tell the administration he was teaching discipline? They should know better than that.

excellent read. I believe Kenny Walker was spot on in this article. I would hate to see him leave Ohio State, but if UK really wants to get back to the glory days, they should pitch a bunch of million at Thad Matta. He would really dominate at UK, in my opinion.

Remember when UK NEVER lost at home? What happened? I went to the Gardner Webb game last year and left shocked and embarrassed. It was a long ride home, and I obviously still haven't gotten over it. I had high hopes for Billy G., but he keeps letting me down. I do hope he can turn it around and win the SEC title, but I'm afraid I will be disappointed once again.

Jodie Meeks is entering the draft without an agent! I was hoping he would stay with the Cats for one more year!

the reason he didnt get a longer rope, is because barnhardt wanted to save his own skin. Ultimately Gillispie got canned because he is a deuchebag. He was a deuchebag when they hired him. i tried to tell you that.

so I was wrong on why UK wouldnt give him longer rope? Ok. Ill buy that. But I always said he was not the guy, not a good coach and you were licking his boots just about 2 months ago. I think i won that round hoss.
