just listened to osu's presidents press conference online, this is ludacris, and trying to say the players were doing it to help their families financially. when in fact it funded tattoo's. what stupidity, on their parts.

What they did was wrong and their should be penalties. 5games is a bit much IMO. 1-2 is more reasonable but it what it is...I could half way understand selling a jersey because you get tons over your career, but selling the big ten championship rings and gold pants is crazy. Not taking up for what they did but I would almost have to think they were hurtin for money to sale something like that of self value and something they worked so hard to get. I know if I had big ten championship rings, awards and gold pants, there wouldn't be a big enough price tag to buy them

any clarification on why no bowl suspension but 5 games next season ? it would be my guess that Tres doesnt let them play in the bowl. (sorry if this has already been covered)

As per the NCAA and the Buckeyes press release:
.
The players are eligible for the bowl game because the NCAA determined they did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred, Lennon said. The NCAA also said that Ohio State did not receive a competitive advantage in the incident.

The NCAA said in its news release that its policy for players in bowl games or championship events "recognizes the unique opportunity these events provide at the end of a season, and they are evaluated differently from a withholding perspective." Lennon said the ruling in this case is consistent with that policy.

"We were not as explicit with our student-athlete education as we should have been in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years regarding the sale of apparel, awards and gifts issued by the athletics department," Smith said in a statement. "We began to significantly improve our education in November of 2009 to address these issues. After going through this experience, we will further enhance our education for all our student-athletes as we move forward."

"We as coaches feel the buck stops here," Tressel said at the news conference. "We're the ones who need to make things even more crystal clear."

I thought it was a $500 cap on bowl game gifts.

The turmoil will begin if TP stays next year, Miller gets the early season nod at QB and then we have a QB controversy and we all know Tress is loyal to the seniors.

Jamal Berry and Jordan Hall will replace Boom without a hitch. Miller will be young, but will have all summer and 4 easy games to get it together. Posey will be missed.

What makes him a thug?

Any chance tressel will actually put his foot down and bench these guys for the sugar bowl? IMO he should and set an example osu won't put up with it. The more I think about and read everything, the more it pisses me off to know these guys had no more respect and appreciation for the great thing they have. It's a slap in the face and a disrespect to all buckeye fans, alumni and to the rich tradition the university holds....I know their still kids and their gonna do dumb stuff and not always have a real appreciation of what they have, but geez that's crazy. So many fans looked up to these guys and loved them for what they do on the field and basically they betrayed their loyalty by making bad decisions. They let alot of people down, especailly their teammates and coaches

Read the fine print at the bottom of post. NOT TO EXCEED THE NCAA LIMIT OF $500 PER PERSON

Come on MD after this was reported on the OSU matter you would need to rethink that.
Just reported that the FBI agents that were involved in the bust all graduated from SEC schools. As well as their wives and significant others are from Arkansas or graduated from Arkansas. Then it came out that the investagation was started by their supervisor who is a graduate from Arkansas but while drinking one night in Columbus woke up with a tattoo. When he sobered up he found out he spent the night with a woman he met and her name was on the tattoo. The supervisor knew that his wife would never believe him so he busted the tattoo parlor so he could try to tell his wife that the tat was just his undercover investigation. He developed his mastermind scheme when he was home for Thanksgiving dinner with his cousin who is the SEC President.

And lose another BCS game to the SEC,,,,OSU wouldn't allow it. They will play in this game,,,then go pro next year if able,,,and once again OSU gets off free, it is Troy Smith all over again.

With all this going on it's hard to imagine those guys will be in the right frame of mind and have their head in the game anyways. Hopefully that isn't the case but it's hard to put that on the back of your mind.
