Probably the most accurate assessment of next years team, based on the talent pool and consistency of the coaching system.Paladin_II wrote:Ohio St. will reload next year & not miss a beat.

Re: Possible violations at OSU
Another example of our society that values only "ME" things. Don't even try to instill in a kid the tradition of "Gold Pants". It probably begins at home. These kids are not being taught that some things are not about them. Some things are bigger than the individual. Watching Pryor whine around on the sideline about coaching decisions kept me from being a big fan of his. Watching Posey get his "Look At Me" diving penalty was probably a sign as well. Where there is smoke ther is usually fire. These kids are too much about themselves. You already have your whole arm covered with tats and you spend thousands to get more? Tats may be the ultimate "Look At Me" thing. Sadly the teammates who work their arse off get punished right along with these idiots. Archie said he would have given a Heisman to win one more pair of pants. No wonder Archie has a place of high respect in Buckeye country. He got it. These kids didn't learn a thing from others mistakes. How could you know about players this year that were suspended for very similar things and go ahead and do it anyway. Sickening.

these kids watched Troy Smith get paid and still get to play they just figured the rules don't apply to O.S.U. Tress just wants to win and doesn't care how he does it.

Next year Miami (FL) who will be rebuilding with a new coach and Michigan State will be games number 3 and 5 I believe so they could possibly lose these two games and start out with a 3-2 record. That wouldn't go over to well in the Buckeye nation.

I would have gone into that game expecting a two score win, and I probably still will.

Love it.....should have been suspended for the bowl game. Tressel should do right thing and not let them play
Re: Possible violations at OSU
It is a little concerning that one of OSU's public positions is that they were trying to help their struggling families in tough economic times? Excuse me but what do tatoos have to do with tough times except to say that with their whole arms covered times must not be that bad after all. Total BS. If they are not suspended, as Cam Newton wasn't, then it makes it crystal clear that big money is all that matters in college sports. It seems to me that Ohio State has a big choice to make. They made one with Clarett. What they do with this will tell everyone what is truly important in college sports and at OSU. Ohio State needs to make a statement and it's not about tough economic times. It's about you will not do this BS at Ohio State.

Would do the school wonders and I'd consider becoming a fan IF Tressel released them from their scholly's and told them to hit the road. MD

Does this go for all idiots that get in trouble at any school, or just OSU's idiots because they need higher standards?

Re: Possible violations at OSU
I have said on this board I don't know how many times that Pryor was an idiot, and that's the truth. I never was sold on him as the starting quarterback, was not sold on his decision making, and I flat out knew he was an unintelligent cocky, arrogant tool the first moment he opened his mouth. He has no sense of right and wrong, I'm not trying to be funny when I say this, he is a dumba$$. I'm not now just saying this because of this incident, like I said I have never like him as a player and especially not as a person.
I wil lsay that he is so arrogant and stupid that he won't listen to the criticism and the facts, he thinks is NFL ready and will declare for the draft after the bowl game in which I hope he does not play in. He will not be drafted because he will insist on being a top draft pick as a QB, which he will never be. He is used to being glorified and mystified and having everyone baby his spoiled a$$ that he doesn't see the truth in front of his face.

IF , IF some school has ACTIVE players that hock their league championship rings or other valuable memoriabilia I'll be the first to say they S U C K . The stuff those guys hocked SHOULD have been priceless , things earned thru blood , sweat and ,tears is not for sell in my book.
to me it's just not the same as some rich booster slipping a guy a 100 dollar bill. Or letting a player drive their Mercedes , or getting free food. They sold personal things.

Re: Possible violations at OSU
It's not the same as a booster violation, or a recruiting violation, and the team is suffering worse than if it was hit with one of those types.
The idiotic actions of a select few that have no value of tradition, but on the other hand basically sold something that WAS theirs, has put a black eye on the program.
How many of us have ever hocked something at a pawn shop for some extra cash. We take something that we are certain we own, and get money in exchange. As far as they knew, it's what they were doing. Should they be punished for it, since it is against NCAA policy, YES!
However dumb or insensitive they are, I can see where they are coming from.
I HATE it, but this is now yesterday's news. We must move on, and play the game ahead. Then enter spring practice and focus on winning games next year.
This isn't a recruiting issue, it isn't a program issue, the team isn't facing probation or reduction if scholarships. This is an issue about idiots, and the idiots are paying the price. We don't gave to pretend to like them, and we don't have to want to see them succeed. But, it could be much worse, and the talent level will dictate a much smaller drop in on field achievements than most think!

I agree. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. All of the effort to instill tradition and honor developed through many years by those who came before mean nothing to those who are about money and self gratification. I know this will draw fire from some but I feel sorry for the Tressel's of the world who try their very best to teach something above the love of money and continually get discouraged by immature children who have no sense of what is truly valuable.

Re: Possible violations at OSU
We get flooded with bad stories when they happen, but where is ESPN when stories such as Mike Brewster and his mother sending buckeye care packages to our troops in Iraq?
How about a special report from Mark May featuring the Buckeyes WEEKLY trip to the childrens hospital or the James Cancer center? They do this on a regular basis!
How about talking about the kids that give their Gold Pant charms to their mom or a person who helped them get to where they are?
How about current athletes that spend time at community soup kitchens, or help out with countless campus charities?
Where is the report on the Christian Athletes who have packed over 10,000 people onto Value City Arena to give devotions on how God has guided them. This has been going on for several years now.
I guess they only save those reports for Fat Charlie and blind kids at USC!
We see a story about a couple idiots who now have to pay the piper for their actions, and we get caught up and start to forget that these are small dark areas on a shinning example of how things should be ran!

^^^^^^^Nice post, dubs, I like it^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Alot of interesting commentary on this subject, with some divergent points-of-view, which is great. Personally, it makes me sick to my stomach to see these individuals think solely about their own individual wants, than to honor and cherish not only the tradition, but the individual and collective efforts of the TEAM to win the awards, that they so quickly sold for individual financial gain.
I don't buy the argument that they "were helping their families". Start peeling the onion back, and I think that premise will be quickly dispelled. I'm hope that the NCAA thoroughly investigates each of these claims of "financial hardship", as I seriously doubt that there will be any mitigating factors that will reduce the suspensions.
These young adults, in my opinion, have exhibited poor values, and I agree with others, this can be blamed on their upbringings and what they've been taught by their parents. If you've not seen the interview with Posey's mother, go find it and read it. It was in the Dispatch a few days ago. It is glaringly obvious why he did what he did, when you read her words in an interview. Her attitude is disturbing.
Now, with the continuing decay of morals in society today, how do we avoid this in the future? No one has made any suggestion to stop this from occuring in the future, as it is apparent that something is going to have to be mandated, as these young adults can't be trusted, with what they are being taught at home. Here's my idea:
All team (e.g. gold pants) and individual awards (e.g. Sportsmanship Awards) be made property of the university and athletic department when they are earned, and are retained by the university until you graduate, or leave the university and relinquish your amatuer status. Frankly, I'd prefer, no graduation, no rewards, but that's just me being old fashioned. You get your gold pants after you graduate, or you are no longer considered an amatuer athlete. Once you are no longer part of the program, they are yours to sell........
