Shawnee State Women Basketball

The Lady Bears were picked as the #5 team in the nation today. Open up in 2 weeks against AMC runner up Daemen College

Rio received votes as did ODU and Cedarville.

The Bears are going to need some luck along with that skill as they have quite the schedule ahead of them.

Hagen-Smith, Perdas and Co. should be up to the challenge!!

Go Bears!

They face a fairly difficult, challenging but exciting schedule.

Beyond the AMC, they face St Francis (IN) whom they defeated in 1999 to win the title. They also face a tough Cardinal Stritch (WI) team. As good as last years team was, I would consider this season a definate CANT miss season.

It all starts next Saturday afternoon with a rematch of the AMC title game against AMC-POY Sarah Bogardus and Daeman College at the newly renovated Rhodes Athletic Center at 5:30pm.

What happened to the Grandy girl from Trimble?

Rumors I've heard says she didn't see eye to eye with the staff and that she quit. I heard she was looking to go to Rio but ended up at OU.

Same rumor I had heard on Grandy. I guess not playing in an offense where 6 screens are set for you a possession like high school will make you not see eye to eye with them. I for one saw this coming. Good luck against Rio ladies.

Lady Bears looked good in another rout. Once again a sloppy, foul filled game but when it came time to play the Ladies were there.

Also, glad to see so many people out at the games.....

Not one girl from Scioto County on the team. What is up with that? Are none trying out for the team or are they just getting cut? You can't tell me that there isn't any talent in there home county.

One of the reasons I don't go watch either the women or the men. No home grown talent playing.

yabbadabbadoo,

Go watch them play and tell me one kid from Scioto County that can play on their team! Off the top of my head, I can think of two, maybe three. Cook from SW, the Cayton kid that went to Cedarville, and maybe the Wiley kid from New Boston. Other than that, I don't know anyone else good enough to. Seriously, go watch them play Cedarville tonight and tell me that the 1st Team All-State PG they got from Pontiac, MI isn't better than Cayton. That's probably part of the reason why Grandy left too. She saw the writing on the wall that Barton was going to take her starting spot. The Johnson kid they got came off the bench at Winton Woods H.S. If she would have played H.S. ball at any school around here, she would have been an All-State selection.

Absolutely agree!

Girls from this area have played on this team and few if any have lasted.

Tonya McKenzie, Ali Hull, and Keri Sanders among others have all been apart of the basketball team at SSU. Hull left for softball, and McKenzie quit and I dont think Sanders made it past the first couple practices.

The girls they have come from athletic programs that understand what it takes to win and have something a lot of people from Scioto County lack and thats the character and attitude to win. I love it here as much as anyone else, but sometimes the attitude associated with being a winner isn't backed up down here....

Good Win vs Cedarville!

HUGE!!! weekend upcoming Saturday against #4 St Francis (IN) in a rematch of the 1999 National Championship Game

Bears make it two for two this weekend by beating St. Francis (IL) 71-68. I believe that moves them to 7-0 on the young season.
