Ohio St 21 Notre Dame 10 Saturday, September 3rd, 2022
Notre Dame is a big time opening opponent for what Buckeye fans hope will be a big time championship season for Ohio State. Game time is 7:30 pm with tv coverage being provided by ABC.
The Irish are a storied program. Knute Rockne, Ara Parseghian, Joe Montana, and all of that. Notre Dame will come to Columbus with first year head coach Marcus Freeman who is an TOSU grad. ND is coming of a 11-2 season in 2021 which culminated in 37-35 loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. The Irish may be lacking in superstars, but will present rugged offensive and defensive line play along with a dual threat quarterback to challenge the Buckeyes.
As to Ohio State, they had the nations number one offense in 2021, and honestly may be better in 2022.
Led by CJ Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and TreVeyon Henderson, the Buckeyes figure to reclaim the Big 10 championship and qualify for the CFP if --- and they are two big ifs --- the defense improves in all phases and if they can find the ability to run the ball in short yardage situations.
To that end Ryan Day hired Jim Knowles as defensive coordinator and Justin Frye as offensive line coach. They will have to get results fast as Notre Dame has the talent to replicate the style of play that led to Buckeye losses to Oregon and Michigan last season. We should find out from the start if OSU under Ryan Day has regained the ability to be a physically dominating team or if finesse will continue to be their forte.
The Bucks are 14.5 point favorites 9 days out from the game despite the lingering issues of "toughness". My thought is the Bucks will prevail 38-28 but the old issues will not be completely resolved. That will simply take time.
Other game notes of interest is that State is 4-2 all time against the Domers, winning the last 4 contests. Their last meeting was in the Fiesta Bowl after the 2015 season with OSU prevailing 44-28. Also of interest is that OSU has not defeated a ranked out of conference opponent at home since 2003 when they defeated both Washington and NC State.
What say you?

OSU offense will be unstoppable. I am excited to see this new defensive scheme that the players seem to be doing really well with.
Early prediction is OSU 38 ND 24

A bit of news, for the first time in its history, the playing field in Ohio Stadium will have a corporate sponsor.
The surface will be known as Safelite Field. There will be two logos for Safelite painted on the turf. No report on the dollar value of sponsorship.
So if the field gets damaged, will "Safelite repair, Safelight replace"???

Agreed Valenth...the Irish are minus a WR due to ACL injury. Notre Dame will hang around for a little bit but just too many stars on that Buckeye O. Bucks hang fifty on the Irish.Valenth wrote: Fri Aug 26, 2022 5:02 pm I think the Buckeyes take the W... Buckeyes have a LOT of weapons!
More curious about tenacity of Buckeye D. Remember, Utah burned them bad as did Bichigan

Very suprised this game is at 8pm.
I thought the city of Columbus had an ordinance in to where all games regardless. Wer to be noon kickoffs?

I get your drift. TV pays billions in broadcast rights so I guess they have the right to select timeslot.countywide35 wrote: Sun Aug 28, 2022 10:40 pm Very suprised this game is at 8pm.

Wish they could both lose. Lol. I would love for OSU to be handed a loss right out of the gate but it's not happening. Stroud, JSN, Williams and the offense under Ryan Day (and promoted passing game coordinator Brian Hartline) are as high powered as it gets. Not sure if they'll cover a -17.5 spread as it now stands, but they'll surely move the rock. I'll take the Buckeyes by 14.

17.5 spread is ridiculous for two good teams. Remember though, Vegas sets odds to make money, not necessarily for game predictions. Take that line with a grain of salt.Tee Higgins wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 4:08 pm Wish they could both lose. Lol. I would love for OSU to be handed a loss right out of the gate but it's not happening. No doubt. Vegas is going to have quite the weekend im sure of it. Freeman said he'd be using this as motivation... we will see how it works out for himOmega wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 4:47 pm17.5 spread is ridiculous for two good teams. I am curious about the "85" in your tag line? Would you care to elucidate? I-85 perhaps?Tee Higgins wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 4:08 pm Wish they could both lose. Lol. Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson said this, referring to himself as "85". Tee Higgins wears 85 in Cincinnati now. Although he's supposed to change it next year.Omega wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 9:17 pmI am curious about the "85" in your tag line? Would you care to elucidate? Thanks for the info. I associate Higgins and 85 with Clemson which is along Interstate 85. I have been away from Ohio for 32 years so I am not uptodate on Bengals lore.Tee Higgins wrote: Tue Aug 30, 2022 8:49 amChad "Ochocinco" Johnson said this, referring to himself as "85". Has anyone heard if Reid Carrico is expected to see playing time this year. Heard lot of talk about him in the spring but nothing from fall camp.
