I watched the spring game ,and I know its early. The offense is going to score alot ,but the defense is going to give up alot more than they can score. One word HORRIBLE!
This is not Michigan Football!

with a bad defense, maybe the offense won't even look as good as they did in the spring game.

RR is going to struggle to get to a bowl again, I think they probably will, but it won't be easy

I think that if RR dont win at least 9 or 8 games then Michigan will get ride of him...man its really hard being a michigan fan since tressell came along lol. I guess i just have to reflect on the Cooper years.

Their new AD said that Rich is the coach for this year.

Not the ringing endorsement Rich wanted.

A winning season and a bowl win are the only thing that brings him back next year. If not, maybe Salem will bring him back and restart their football program that folded after Rod's first year there as head coach.

Were you watching the same spring game as me?

The first team D was going against the second team O (the offense Tate was leading). The D line without starter Mike Martin and corner Troy Wolfolk did not allow a rush of more then 8 yards until the subed at the end. Tate threw one touchdown on the D when they went from the 25 in and held 3 other times and kept the second team D out of the endzone. Gardner ran for a TD against the 1st/2nd defense.

I am not buying that the D is awful after watching them in a controlled scrimmage where the ball was set inside the 25 4 times and inside the 5 three times.

We will see but to say the defense was awful is not accurate.

The defense is awful.

And if your judging defensive success with the quality of run defense of 8 yard rushes,
then you've proven the awful point.

It was bad last year, it lost it's only talent to the NFL, and it is changing to a system
that is a joke.

Going to a 3-3-5 will probably prove to be a mistake for Michigan; they will get shredded on the ground by power teams like Iowa or Wisconsin. Could be wrong, but the 3-3-5 just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Problem with the 3-3-5 is that everyone has a gap and they are responsible for tackling anyone carrying the ball thru the gap in the run game. Lots of emphasis on one on one tackling and that is up to the team to devote alot of practice time to fundamental tackling which can take away from actual reps to learn the ins-outs of the new system.

Everyone hatres on RR but his team outplayed my Bucks last year but were overmatched talentwise, lost the to battle, and failed to execute on crucial downs. He made WVU a solid program and could take UM to a level that tOSU fans hate to see. He may cheat and he may be arrogant but so were JoPa in the day, Jimmy Johnson, B Bowden, even our own Woodrow Hayes had alot of arrogance.

Yea  Michigan really made that game close!
Forcier threw 4 pics and lost a fumble, They couldn't stop the run at all but they sure did give the Bucks a run for there money!
I hope Michigan outplays us like that every year!
The only reason that game was 21-10 was because Tress just wanted to get a lead, eat clock and play Defense

I am not going to judge how good a defense is by their spring game, sorry. Not to mention they were without two NFL type players in Mike Martin and Troy Wolfolk.

The reason I think they will make strides is that they have tons of experience. Wil lthat translate into success? I hope so.

DE-Mike Martin, Jr, two year starter
NG-Will Campbel, Soph, lettered last year
DE-Greg Banks, RSr, 2 yr lettermen
LB-Obi Ezeh, RSr, 3 yr starter
LB-Jonus Mouton, RSr, 2 yr starter
Bandit- Craig Roh, Soph, starter last yr
Spur- Thomas Gordon, RFr
FS- Jordan Kovacs, RSoph, starter last yr
SS- Cam Gordon, RFr
DB- Troy Wolfolk, Sr, 3yr starter
DB-JT Floyd, RSoph, started two games last season

There are only two players who did not start or play a large role in last years defense. Not to mention that Demar Dorsey is expected to compete for a starting DB spot, and JT Turner is expected to move back to S as well.

And, you shouldn't judge the fall roster by the spring practice.

OSU has had issues on the O-Line for 3 years now, and word out of spring practice
is it hasn't gotten any better. It may have even gotten worse.

The difference is, Michigan's defense was horrible last year, and lost it's only two decent players.
They are changing systems as well.

I don't expect to see the same wretched defense in the fall, but I'm also hopping to keep Pryor vertical in the fall as well.

IMO also the 3-3-5 isn't going to work well in the big 10. the run 1st teams like wisconsin, iowa, penn st., osu etc. are going to have big rushing day against the D. 1 missed tackle by a lineman or L backer and his in your secondary gaining 10 to15 yds a wack.

Michigan is not chanigng systems, they played a lot of 3-3-5 last season with a base 4-2 with a bandit rolled up towards the LOS.

Their D was bad, not arguing that. Difference is Wolfolk will be in his 2nd year at DB and is on the same level as Warren, Ezeh and Mouton will have 5 years of starts between the two, Mike Martin will be in his third year as a starter, and Mike Williams is out at S and in is Cam Gordon (6'3, 215). No one will replace Graham and I would not describe him as descent.

We will see how it works out. My point is that the second team D was the one getting all the points scored on them, not the first team D.

I didn't say gave them a run for their money, I said outplayed us with an undermanned team and that is fact. 21-10 with UM having 5 to's, Thanks for proving my point. Also throw in some huge penalties, UM shot themselves in the foot all day. It certainly isn't their fault we played not to lose the game. We should have stomped a mudhole in their a$$ but instead won a sleeper 21-10. Nonetheless, I hope RR goes because in time he will get the team put together to run his system and dare I say, cause problems for us.

UM's woes fall directly on the way Carr left the program and his lack of preparation for the future in his waning years as coach.
