Heard something about on espn radio, I personaly dont like Missiouri and Nebraska joining the the big ten. They really only need to add three teams and make it a 14 team conf. ND should join along with Rutgers, and add Cinncy. Which I dont think they would add Cincy cause the big ten is tryin to expand there market and well they already have that area coved.

Reports of Big Ten expansion offers denied
Sporting News staff reports

Monday, May. 10, 2010 - 9:47 p.m. ET
A report that the Big Ten has offered spots in its league to four universities is being widely denied.

Sports Radio 810 in Kansas City reported Monday that the conference offered spots to Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Rutgers. According to the report, Rutgers' spot would be contingent on Notre Dame's decision.

The Chicago Tribune reports a Big Ten spokesman denied that any offers were made. When the Big Ten first announced it was considering expansion in December, league officials said they would take 12 to 18 months to look into it.

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he'd heard nothing from Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany regarding Missouri and Nebraska. Delany has insisted he would contact any conference commissioner affected by expansion before making official offers.

Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman responded, "None whatsoever," when asked by the Lincoln Journal-Star if there was any vaildity to the Kansas City report.

UPDATE: Rutgers, too, has issued a denial, according to The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J. In a statement, Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti said, "We are a proud member of the Big East Conference. It is not our place to speculate on any reports on the expansion plans of any other conference."

I believe Rutgers and Missouri will both accept the invitation (no matter what they're saying right now), Notre Dame will decline so they can stay independent. I didnt even know Nebraska was in the running (I havent been following to closely), but they would be great for the Big Ten, but I doubt they will join. IMO the Big Ten would invite Syracuse and Maryland for those spots.

Also on ESPN yesterday they said there were 3 dark horse teams:

Georgia Tech
Maryland
Vanderbilt

Nebraska will join if asked! They want that money! They don't get crap in the Big 12, The Big 10 pays out a lot of money.

3 of these teams do not have an all around strong sport program

Mizzo and Nebraska both have some good womens athletics as well.

ND is more of a Basketball school any more and both mens and womens teams would be good for the Big 10.

Rutgers has a good swimming tradition and will bring some East Coast money to the conference.

Notre Dame and Nebraska travel well....especially Nebraska who has fans who came all the way from Lincoln to Athens just to watch Coach Solich. I heard a story on 97.1 FM today that Nebraska alums paid for a TV showing of Nebraska in the Phoenix Arizona area.

Not sure how Mizzou and Rutgers will fit......Rutgers might be a bottom feeder.

did i read somewhere that big 10 is denying this report?

all kinds of rumors floating around. until a big10 rep or invited school rep makes an announcement all we have is rumors.

if syracuse or pitt jumps to big10 i think will hurt their basketball programs. nyc kids might think twice about playing in a midwestern league.

I watched something on SportsNation about it and they said Notre Dame was offered. Colin said it best though that the only team that sees Notre Dame a threat is Notre Dame.

I don't think any basketball programs will suffer, the BigTen had the national player of the year and has had a final four team more consistantly than the big least over the past 10 years. Syracuse and Pittsburgh are not much different than any of the BigTen cities. They may even be better by getting away from those type players based on tournament play lately.

next time before you post bull $hiiite try searching for facts to back up your nonsense.... here is a link for you. proves your post is bull $hiite.
syracuse and pittsburgh might not be much different than other big10 cities but... those nyc kids know they will be going back and playing in the nyc area a few times a year plus playing at the garden for BIG EAST TOURNAMENT. playing in the garden is important to them.
your comment about being better by getting away from those type players.... bull $hiiiite

Relax!!!! So what i gather from that is in the past 15 years 12 BigTen teams have made the final four and 10 Big East teams have made the final four. Not hardly enough to say that either will hurt from the change. Sorry for speaking from memory about consistancy concerning BigTen schools consistantly being in the final four as much so as Big East and Pitt and Cuse in particular however my memory did serve me correctly and thanks for the link because it certainly proves the point. I guess my real point is this, it isn't hurting the BigTen now and seemingly isn't creating a huge advantage for the Big East either in comparison especially Pitt or Cuse.

you go from 10 years in original post to 15 years now.... what if we go back another 15 years and include all the 80's.... jim beohiem(sp) himself has stated that if syracuse were to go to big10 their recruiting of nyc area players would suffer. same if not more so would happen with pitt.

Ten years, my bad....... okay that is 7 big10 to 6 BigEast with only one of those reps from Cuse and Pitt combined. Still overwhelming difference, huh? I'm glad Boeheim is a prophet as much as he is a great coach! (initial sarcasm followed by respect for Coach B) Seriously, only time would tell and nobody really knows how things would be affected but as a bigten fan I hope they don't invite Syracuse anyway because of a variety or reasons and Pitt doesn't bring a whole lot to the table as far as the whole reasoning for expansion so it may be a moot point. As far as recruiting goes, I think in the eighties the importance of gaining an advantage in the NYC area was much more important than in todays game, much more diversity in the burbs these players are coming out of today.

I would love Syracuse basketball in the Big Ten. Then I could go to more of their games. But I dont want it to happen at the expense of our recruiting.

Any Big Ten expansion will be driven by potential football revenue. They covet a Championship Game for the Big 10 Network. This is all about money and as the dominoes fall, other conferences will have to react to enhance revenue. Rutgers is all about the NYC market. Nebraska is a shot across the bow of the Big 12 to move Texas, the ultimate prize, into action. Missouri is a throw-in to give Illinois a rivalry. I don't see Syracuse, Pitt or WV being a priority of the Big Ten unless they get rebuffed by some of the others. They bring some basketball interest but I doubt the Big Ten wants to be a glorified Big East.

I really thought that the big ten would surprise us all and try to lure an ACC team into the conference.. They still may but that would really tic off the SEC and you know that is good for ratings.

actually i think it's 7 big east and 7 bigten... wvu had all 5 starters from nyc area on this years final four team. i trust that boeheim knows what he talking about.
are there good players from other areas of the country? absolutely... but, if you read or listen to interviews/quotes from big time d I coaches they all talk about making connections and recruiting the nyc area.
