I'm a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan, but.....

Post by NYBuckeye96 »

I'm a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan, but this whole incident with Coach Tressel and the way the players were punished for next season and not during the Sugar Bowl, this just shows that NCAA sports aren't about honesty and integrity first and foremost. The number one goal is turning a profit.

I am and always will be a Buckeye fan, but it bothers me how these types of situations go down. And it's not just OSU. It's like this at pretty much every school. I think Tressel is a great coach and I'm not ragging on him by any means.

At what point did honesty/integrity/doing the right thing get thrown out the door in college sports in favor of making money?

along with leather helmets, sock hops and root beer floats. Why can't we all just be honest that major college football is a business and we enjoy it that way. Then we can skip the hipocracry.

All that needs to be said about osu is what gee said after being asked if he was going to fire tressel. It was something like "I'm just glad he didn't fire me".What's wrong with that picture?

Rich Rod is unemployed. You know he won't part with any championship rings, because he doesn't have too many of them to offer.

I'd hate to see the tattoo he would pick up in exchange for one.

In basketball 8 losses mean a lower seed. In football 2 losses mean a lower bowl, less money, no chance at a national title.

Now, even without Tress and 5 starters, Akron and Toledo will still be wins.

But, the point remains the same.

Jim Calhoon recently was hit with 3 games for lying and with holding from the NCAA.

I think Tress should have to sit 6 games, I think he should have to sit those games without pay and not be allowed onto the campus.

Big time college sports has been this way for over a century. College sports, even though we love it and can't live without it, is as crooked as a dog's hind leg and the NCAA, via it's presidents and ADs, allows it to happen.

The NCAA and universities are as addicted to the money as a crack-whore is to crack and recoil in mock horror when these things happen.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect any buckeye faithful to "rag" on their coach who has violated NCAA rules..he doesn't deserve to be ragged on does he?

Give me a break. Are you seriously that afraid to say something bad about Tressel, even when he honestly broke a BIG rule. He should have to miss spring workouts too, according to ESPN, the school thought about it, but decided to let him be on campus..probably more worried about ticket sales to the spring game rather than the integrity of the university.

Can't change what Happened there.......but this can be handled in a better way than a freakin 2 game suspension

That guy didn't get punished so this guy shouldn't either??? Sounds kinda 3rd grade to me!

And if and when judgment is pronounced on JT, I believe two things will be true of Buckeye faithful. They will support that judgment in the same way they did when Woody Hayes was fired, and they will support whatever punishment is meted out for Tressel and then be prepared to move on when he has satisfied the NCAA.

Even great men make mistakes, and they have feet of clay just like everyone else.
Honestly, as I have stated before in a prior post on the other live board GAHS4EVER..I truly feel Tressel took a hit for something TP (The Leader..supposedly) and his group got him into. I am truly just upset with the university handing out a wimpy two game suspension that included two pushover games. I could care less honestly about Tressel's email game or whatever because I think there is so much more to the story than what is portrayed in the media. With that being said, I think it is a crock for anyone to say that most coaches would do the same for their players (i'm saying for anyone in gerneral), because that simply isn't true for all universities. We all know Tressel lied..he did. He ordered his players to come back next year if they wanted to play in the bowl game (which is what we were told..it sounded good anyways) and all along he was lying..so more power to you if you want to back him, or whatever..most mothers will stick up for their kids anyways, but I can say that most universities and alumnus would spit him out, or at least give a reasonable suspension in which most cases the coach would step down because it isn't worth it to stick around. My point was, for OSU fans to not feel bad about ragging on your coach for covering up a "childish" thing that Tressel could have easily mentioned and this would not be happening. Tress was more concerned about the season and his star players being on the field for the up-and-coming season.

Everyone is equal.. therefore, I just want fair and equal punishment for anyone involved in this garbage. Things like this will ruin the game. College football is my baby, and it bothers me to see top programs (USC, OSU, Georgia) you name it invloved in this crap. Although, I am not an obvious OSU fan, I dont like turning on the TV and seeing College Football take the light from steroid users and the crappy NBA, and stupid NFL union blatter..We have to make examples of these players and coaches to keep the system rolling..

The University was advised to what the standard discipline should be BY THE NCAA!
The 2 game suspension is on par with what NCAA guidelines have established.

Now, the NCAA can add more punishment to Tressel, and most people expect them to.

No reason to get upset at the punishment, until it's actually handed out.

Oh and BTW, Michigan head coach Brady Hocke had coach Tressel's back today.

Spike Lee is right the NCAA is the biggest "PIMPS" out there!!! The coaches salaries are to high for what they do! I go to watch the stars for the buckeyes play not to watch Tressel coach! Tressel makes over a million a year and the players get housing, tuition, and meals even though the school generates money for their talents and hard work! Tressel's salary is paid for by his player's at least he is getting paid when he makes an ethical mistake. The players get labeled "troublemakers" and it hurts their chances of signing a multi-million dollar contact! If you can't see something wrong with that picture you have your blinders on! "Indentured Servantude" @ its best! If Tressel and the NCAA are the leaders they claim to be, they should all take a huge salary cut and give a piece of the pie to the players and their families who are coming from poor to mediocre living conditions! How much money did Terrel Pryor recieve from the $85 jersey i have hanging in my closet? High ethical standards, loyalty, discipline, integrity, blah, blah, blah!!! These words shouldn't be spoken by these so called leaders and they should be compared more to mofia leaders because they are running a "racket"!!
