All-Star

Post by 3:10TOYUMA »

When voting for an All-Star team, half said they did not want to play for All-Stars b/c they had other committments. Unexpectedly, their plans have changed and have now called for a re-vote for the All-Stars. After the re-vote they all made team. Can someone tell me their opinions on how this is fair to the kids?

A re-vote?This may be one of the silliest things I've read on here.I hope the kids that made it the first time weren't notified they made it,then told otherwise.

I'd like a bit more info before giving my opinion. It sounds like some kids were voted in, then possibly excluded with a revote????

The kids were asked to vote on 8 or 9 choices for All-Stars. They were told when voting of the people who had prior engagements and did not want to play on the All-Star Team. So all the kids voted. I don't know who was chosen because no one received a phone call. The next phone call was to inform us their was going to be a re-vote for the All-Star Team. Now the new members of the All-Star team are the kids who had previous plans and did not want to play before.

Sounds like poor planning in the first place. Everyone should be voted on as if they are willing and able to play. Then, if a child has other obligations you can replace that child later. In the end, did the kids who ended up on the team deserve to be on the team? If so, I'd be glad that it all worked out in the end.

To answer your questions, there were 21-22 kids to chose from. 12 of the kids could not play b/c they were busy and said they had previous plans, leaving about 10 kids for the team. So yes, the kids knew who was chosen the first time b/c they were the only ones willing to play. After the re-vote none of those kids were picked. The entire All-Star team is now made up of the 12 kids that didn't want to play in the beginning.
I understand in any sport their our parents who complain and whine about everything but this type of behavior is appalling. In this particular case the kids are not played b/c of their talents, they are simply played b/c of who their parents know.

Iam not sure of what school you are talking about and dont want to know. But I believe I do know and only 8 girls was choosen that had other arrangements and they desided to play allstars with some of there friends. There was not a revote all the votes from before was used and some of the girls that did not get to vote was asked to vote. There was not going to be a team with out these girls been on it because of not having any pitching and no one wanted to coach. And the kids did not know who was on the team because they can not be told until June 15th I think. And BWH the girls who should be on it are on it and a some other girls were asked to play and was either out of town or was going on Vac.. So at least the school has a team going now.

The league did not know until June 14th that there would be a team. A ballot was made out with all girls names on it and nothing was said about girls being unavailable. The week before when we thought we might have a team, one of the teams was playing at home and we had them vote. When the coach said he couldn't take the team and no one else wanted it, we told Glenn we wouldn't have a team and we did not pursue the rest of the girls and the other team to vote. When the coach decided that if we could get a team in he would take it, we had to allow all the other girls to vote. That is why the managers called their girls who did not get a chance to vote. This was not a revote, the other team never even got a chance to vote because the league thought there would be no team. The other team did not play home again after this and some girls from the other team were not there on the night we had them vote and so this was done on June 15th and there was no way anyone could of known how the vote went because it was not counted until June 15th. I will also say that there was only 5-6 girls who even voted from the first team and none from the second team, so it was really important to have them all vote. Let me also say this, from a previous post, I talk to Mike and Nina from Central Headquarters all the time and they have been nothing but wonderful. We may not always like their answers, but they are very good at what they do.
