Anyone have JR High baseball teams who moved up 6th graders to play and cut 7th graders?

Heard Burg cut several 7th and 8th grade girls for softball, but kept one of the coachs 6th grade girl.
Just what I heard, may not be true, but never the less legal. Plus if it is who I'm thinking of, she's worthy.

6th grade is middle school just like 7th and 8th. I'm sure any team just takes the top 12 kids. Most teams don't have that luxury.

was the kid moved up because of age , i bet he was to old for little league and needed a place to play, so don't see no problem with it , if that is the case

Age shouldn't matter .If they are not in 7th grade they should not play. 7th and 8th grade baseaball or softball should be for those in 7th & 8th grades only(if your school can't field a team with 7th and 8th graders then maybe go younger but use the older children first )If the child is in the 6th grade and to old for little league (11-12) then just wait till (13-14 junior league )or find a travel team to play with until little League starts.

It's called middle school baseball/softball, not 7th/8th grade baseball/softball. 6th grade is middle school.

Thought it was Junior High Baseball . You don't pull a 6th grader up to play on a Junior High Football team do you ? I just think their should be some type of guide line to go by. We all throw the word Travel Ball around when truly their are teams in the area that just play each other and maybe go Travel once , twice , or not at all .You dont have to sit out a year Junior League(13-14) starts around the end of May.

Exactly Chance....7th grade team=7th grade team/JR HIGH - Not middle school team. Didn't see the 6th grader moved up for 7th grade football..nope! There are fall ball leagues that don't "travel" and there will be 13-14 yr old jr. league. My issue is that true 7th graders were cut weeks after "practice" began. "Practice" in full uniform I might add. Who can afford that just to throw it away? I have no issues with moving kids up if you cannot field a team, but when you have to cut it's just unfair. IMO!

BTW- he is a great ball player but does that make it okay?

Well, since it's not school sanctioned then it usually just reverts to who is in the Jr. High building!!! Make two teams. Have 6th/7th and 8th. More kids that play the better your program will be.

It's not that it is not school sanctioned, it is not sanctioned by OHSAA, as football, basketball, volleyball, and
several other sports are, But is a feeder system for high school. Also 6th grade is NOT junior high as far as
athletics, even though they may possibly be in the same building. 2nd chance has it right!!!

The junior high program is in fact suppose to feed the high school program so I think the high school coaches for baseball/softball should play a bigger part in choosing their junior high teams and coaches. The coaches for the junior high teams should not be allowed to have kids on the team so less favortism is shown. Concerning 6th graders playing in Junior High, I disagree because they are not in Junior High.

Concerning Burg Junior High Softball Coaches, one coach has a 6th grader and 8th grader playing for team while his assistant has a 6th grade daughter playing for team. Do you really think fairness or impartial judment can materialize when the candle is burning on both ends? From what I have heard there were some very talented 7th graders that were left off of the team and were really never given a shot in the 3 day try out.

I have also heard the same thing from several parents, one who even has a 8th grader on the team.

Sounds like this debate comes in all forms and sizes and won't be the parents who fix it..

of course a kid isn't moved up for football but who would have a problem with that? I see no problem for baseball either. These are COMPETITIVE sports so if a 7th grader gets beat out by a 6th grader then that's life---get better or find something else to play. I saw a school with a 4th grader playing on their 6th grade basketball allstar team because he was good enough. I didn't see any 5th, 6th, or even other 4th grade parents crying foul over that. If you get beat out head to head by anyone your age or younger then these kids have to learn to deal with it. The days of "little Johnny" making the team because of who is dad is or pays for ends at little league. Sounds like sour grapes.
