Wheelersburg can only host 1 game per night, not counting Saturday. I think the first game may be 7-6.

I was told the Saturday game may be moved to 10:00 am in the hopes of avoiding some of the heat.

I heard that the game tonight was won by Chesapeake by a run.

When will we know if the game time between Portsmouth and Burg is changed?
Thanks

I confirmed the same thing that the game is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 6. Good Luck to both the Burg and Trojans!

What happened tonight? Both teams there at 6 ready to play ball. No umpires..........supposedly the umpires were on their way from Fairland and it was confirmed twice that they were coming. Then all of a sudden it is announced that the game would not be played. Scheduled for tomorrow at 6.

To the powers that be............Do you understand what it is to be a parent scheduled to work tonight and you call off so you can see your son's game and then no game. Not playing today makes it difficult on many others I am sure. Someone please explain what happened? Thanks!

I agree IF "the powers to be" had confirmed 2 times the umpires was on the way why did they NEVER show up OR give the people and explanation? why diddint the powers to be just call in 2 more local umpires and not leave fans from both teams sitting in the heat for an hour for nothing!?? verey very poor way of hosting a tournament. no excuse.

I was not faulting Wheelersburg for the no show of the umpires. The district has to assign those. The responsibility lies on the District Administrators and the umpires that were assigned and did not show.

I know there was a plan late on Friday to change the game on Saturday from 6:00 pm to the new time of 10:00 am but that obviously didn't happen. I was told the change wasn't made because there were no umpires available on such short notice. The 9-10 boys and girls tournaments were beginning on Saturday and would take possible umpires away from other sites, including Wheelersburg.

As far as the Saturday night game not having any umpires, I was told that two umpires agreed to cover that game but got overheated working other games earlier in the day and didn't send replacements for themselves.

Keep in mind that I don't "know" anything. I am only repeating what I am told by sources that I consider credible. I think one official had said he would have the game covered and didn't take care of it after getting sick from the heat. I don't think it was two umpires and both got sick.

The lady flipping the coin at Wheelersburg was, in my opinion, repeating what she was told. I am sure she didn't know who was coming but only that someone was supposed to be there.

I can speak from experience as a tournament director that there are only so many things you can control. The district supplies umpires and you can do everything to get games ready to play and hope that umpires show up. With that said, there are many, many factors that can affect whether umpires are able to make it. I know it is an inconvenience for people to show up to play a game only to have something unexpected keep the game from happening.

I would hope that our district leaders were not planning on having only one umpire for a district game between Portsmouth and Wheelersburg...
I would say no, that was not the case and not because it was Portsmouth vs. Wheelersburg. I don't think they would plan to have only one umpire call any district game at that level.

...or are you referring to an official of the league or district who became sick with the heat and failed to follow up to ensure that somebody obtained umpires for the game?
Again only guessing here, I think one person (an umpire) probably agreed to umpire the game and bring someone else to make two officials. That one person became sick and forgot to take care of umpiring the JL game and didn't find anyone to replace him or to find officials to cover the game.

Finally, who might have told the lady official at Wheelersburg to tell the masses that the umpires were only 15 minutes away?[/quote]
Absolutely no clue on an answer for that question. I could guess but it would be a total stab in the dark with no support and I'd rather not do that.

The game was played this evening.

Wheelersburg came out on top 10-2. Excellent offense and defense by the Junior Pirates. Wheelersburg plays Chesapeake tomorrow at 6 at the Burg.

Portsmouth meets Ironton the following day at 6 at the Burg.

Of course, this is all subject to change..............

People on here are talking as if this district has ever been anything other than a comedy of errors. Heck this year they didn't even know what teams would be playing before the season started, then made changes to the schedule as the season started. Throw it together stir it around, look at it, then stir it again and hope it works, or stir it one more time.

How exactly is that the fault of the district? If a team files a protest the officials have to give the protest its just due.

I have no clue. I guess I just find it odd that for some people, every problem that seems to arise in every tournament is always the fault of the "district".
