Beating someone by 60 in a 7th grade game is ridiculous. Call off the press, have the scorer's table keep a running clock, etc. give the kids on the losing team some dignity. Just SCORING 60 in a 7th grade game is pretty impressive, beating someone by 60 is poor sportsmanship.

We're you there? Maybe they did all that. You can't tell kids that never get to play to not play hard.

Burg 7th beat Waverly 41-30

Burg 8th lost to Waverly 28-26

And the Burg 7th against Minford was not a 60 point win it was in the high 30's

I don't have to be there to come to the conclusion that beating someone by 60 in Jr. High is uncalled for. Probably more like the 30 point margain mentioned above anyway.

So if you weren't there how do you know they didn't do everything you mentioned? So your not pressing, you have cleared your bench and the other team has pretty much quit, and you still have a period left to play, what do you do? Do you tell your kids that don't get a lot of playing time to hold the ball?

Waverly 7th was missing a strong starter and big man was playing with a bad ankle...
AND IT STILL TOOK 7 TO WIN :122246

So fbnut was obliviously not at the game either. I also agree with King of the Game that beating a 7th grade team by 60 would be disgraceful. Dont know how as a coach you could walk away from that one feeling great about yourself. Believe it or not you can slow the game down to where that doesnt happen. I have seen our jr high girls coach do it several times this year. She was able to leave the other teams players with their dignity, and get some kids playing time. And, the starters and most players DO understand what is going on with the score, and were ok with the out come. Oh, and by the way I am a firm believer that Karma will come smack you down like a WWE slam when your not careful of how you manage these types of games.

That's OK.

Portsmouth beat your team as 6th graders in the Lewis County Tournament when Hughes and JJ Johnson were still on their team.

You had all of your players then.

I really don't know if they tried everything but someone else said the margain was only 30 anyway. I have coached and been on both sides of a game where one team is overmatched. Like mentioned above you and you suggested, a team can slow the game down and "require" your team to pass 4-5 times before shooting or something like that. If you beat teams by 60 then every kid should get playing time often since you're obviously a very talented team. Also, the clock keeper can just have a running clock since the game is already over. It's pretty difficult for a 12-13 yr old kid to come back for the next practice, next game, whenever after getting hammered that bad.

Well, Kentucky Trojan, Portsmouth is coming to the tournament at Eastern, so hopefully the Tigers get a chance to play them. I think it might be a little different than as 6th graders. Besides, isn't your son playing in Kentucky?

Short-handed or not, the Tigers have to learn to step up and overcome adversity (just as any young kid/team learns). You have to give all the credit to Wheelersburg. The referees were allowing a very physical game, and they took advantage of that by extending pressure in the half court and creating easy buckets on the other end. I thought the Hughes kid played a very nice game...not just putting the ball in the hole, but helping on the glass and playing very physical defense on our ball-handlers.

No Hughes and no JJ Johnson...

...but they are still a good team...
