Any information on how the boys from Beaver are developing would be greatly appreciated. I know there has been some extremely dedicated folks over in Beaver trying to make this program work out and I hope they are able to get it off of the ground.
I was informed they play a combined 7th and 8th grade team and was wondering if they will have enough boys out for high school to keep the process moving towards fielding a Varsity team in a few more years. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone? You don't have to be from Beaver to provide an opinion or provide details from a game you may have seen.

First of all....I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Coach Scott Tomlison, his coaching staff and the multiple volunteers that are working so hard at getting this program established. This has been something that was often talked about over 20 years ago when I was attending Eastern, but the many obstacles and financial restraints kept it from becoming a reality for so many. Well, this is not the case any longer as first downs and touchdowns are part of the discussion along with three pointers and full court presses. So once again....thank you so much to all involved that has worked so diligently and displayed the untiring dedication to turn an idea into an opportunity for the youth of the Eastern Local School District and the community.
I received some information from Coach Tomlison and wanted to provide an update. Coach Tomlison expressed his appreciation to the community, parents, school administration, the hard working volunteers and coaches. It appears that the program is experiencing some success early and has some very dedicated parents, athletes and supporters both locally and from other communities enabling it to rapidly develop.
On the year the High School JV team is 3-0 as it fields a team of 25 boys and the Junior High team is 4-2 consisting of 27 players. The first official High School Varsity schedule is set for 2015 and Friday night football under the lights will become a part of the culture for Eastern. In addition, the youth tackle and flag football program currently has 60 boys involved and is gaining momentum and support for the future of the Eagle Football program.
For updates and developments please follow the Eastern Eagles Football through Facebook.

It was a great game. Eastern has some very nice players with a lot of size. I have heard that they have done well against some larger schools since starting the program a few years ago. Eastern led 22-0 at halftime and I believe 28-12 with 1:50 to go in the 4th quarter. The Oaks came back to tie it at 28 all with no time left on the clock and went on to win it 34-28 in overtime.
However, I don't think who won was really all that important in this case because there were so many variables. As I understand it Eastern is a combined 7th and 8th grade team while Oak Hill is just a 7th grade team. But that is offset by the fact that Oak Hill is a considerably larger school. Also, the Eastern coach put in what I assume were 7th graders on offense at the 1:50 mark and on their possession in the overtime.
Eastern has a lot to look forward to. Congratulations on starting a football program and what I think will be a successful one at that.

Thank you for the update Oneoak. I agree that the score is just a a formality in this stage of the program and that every school on their schedule agrees to play a combined team from Eastern and that is very supportive to helping a young program develop. I just hope that the community gets behind the team and Coach Tomlison and provide it with an opportunity that could benefit so many young men within the school district.
I am optimistic that this group of players will stick at it and continue to learn the game. The transition from Junior High to High-school football will be challenging period, but these kids will be setting the stage for others to follow. Once again, thank you for the update. Talk to you later.

Hoggy,
I had the opportunity to see the Eagles play Minford's 7th Grade team last year and I was very impressed with how well those kids played!!! They were running a spread offense with the QB in the shotgun and he was throwing the ball all over the field with his receivers catching pass after pass. The enthusiasm and energy from the coaching staff and the players was very obvious and made me excited for their future and for what they will add to the SOC in the future as well. I haven't had the chance to see them play this year yet, but my son said Minford's 7th Grade team will be playing them this week since his 8th Grade team is playing Northwest. I'm not sure what day they're playing, but I know my son's team played them on a Saturday last year. I wish the Eagles the absolute best in the future and couldn't be happier to see them with the SOC's newest football program!!!!

Thanks Jesco,
Coach Tomlison sent me an update about the High school JV team yesterday. He said they beat West Union 48-0 this past week and are 5-0 on the season. They will be playing Waverly on 24 October. He informed me that the JV team is comprised of 9th through 11th graders but mostly have Freshman on the team. The experience these boys are gaining will be beneficial when they transition to field their first ever Varsity football team next year. This is definitely a huge accomplishment and I hope they are able to keep the momentum going.
Jesco, if you have any updates on the boys from Beaver......please keep an old eagle up to date if you get a chance.

I heard in the jr high game vs Oak Hill that Eastern was up with 50 seconds left and were intercepted and tied the game????
Robbie Warnick one of the top players on the 8th grade team broke his foot so they'll be without IMO their top player.
