dont see how you can have a legit conversation with anyone who think SS doesnt add to the deficit . Not saying its a prime cause but , as you dems love to point , demographics have changed . people are living longer , costing tons more in those addt' years of life. I'm not against living longer but the realization is that its costing tons more in medicare spending , both in parts B and D . and SS disability is soaring . And when you get listed as disbaled thats for life .

No one wants their sacred cow touched. The direct result is $16T + in debt. Get serious with the problem or prepare for the eventual outcome.

• Social Security is required by law to be self-financing
• Payroll taxes exceeded benefit payments regularly until 2010
• This generated a surplus of $2.5 trillion in the Social Security Trust Funds
• There is now a net shortfall which is expected to deplete the surplus by 2037
• Treasury borrowed from the surplus in the Trust Funds to pay for other programs
• The government is now having to borrow money to pay its Social Security obligations
The fact is SS has been raided.....But it is still a viable system,,,,,,,Once the baby boomer generation dies out the system will restore itself.........If not for the trillions in surpluses that were raided by dems and rep. alike, this country would have hit a fiscal cliff many moons ago...I do not see how you could have a legit conversation with anyone that does not understand that.......... :12224

Trojan, here is a good article that helps explain it,they invest in bonds with it to help keep it up, but have used it for medicare and the military,I have also heard the SSD fund will be broke in few years and benefits will have to be cutback in order to finance it.I know too many people abusing it wasting a lot of their monthly checks on drugs and alcohol, this is where drug testing is needed IMO

c-bolt, drug testing has been tried in florida, and it cost more to test than fraud was found........ :12224
Re: Here is what you've been waiting to hear LOL
Another alternative would be maybe to do periodic record checks, most them people have had numerous run-ins with the law,and if they see a drug or alcohol conviction bye bye benefits.

I agree. If you want to test for drugs for other benefit programs, be my guest to "waste" that money. But SS and Medicare have been subscribed to by millions who have yet to take a dime from it. When the time comes, pay my benefits and stay out of my urine.abuck76 wrote:You can not deny Social Security benefits once they reach retirement................They paid into them.........It is their money............. :12224

You said that the SSA was not part of the deficit and that there were trillions in surpluses.abuck76 wrote:The cbs report verifies the surpluses.........The SSA site click on what you want.....Multiple years then all years....And it shows the surpluses.......think man think......... :12224
Therefore, you provide the direct link to prove it.
Re: Here is what you've been waiting to hear LOL
I did......If you are not smart enough to hit a couple of buttons, then I am sorry........Here I will try one more time.........on the left side hit multiple time periods....On this screen hit both funds, next bubble hit fiscal year, next buubble down hit all years, next bubble down hit all years and next hit either millions or billions.........There will see that the surplus is 2.717 Trillion now............ :12224
