at least more in tune with young teens ( 13-15 ) had a mom on a different sports website bragging on her 13 YR old's FB status : -------------- I hate soccer , it's the gayest sport ever , I'd rather watch paint dry or even cheerleading ----------------- ... this kid is a travel fastpitch player and for many reasons softballers rag on soccer players .. I commented --- " your daughters future or maybe current GAY teammates or friends might not appreciate the negativity in which she used the term gay" her response was " she has a large group gay and bi friends ( at 13 ?? ) and ALL use the term gay and find it not derogatory " .... so my question would young teens who think they are gay , and may be , really not mind someone using GAY to describe how terrible something is , or how much they dislike something ?

No one should use gay as an adjective to describe something bad. And many teens know their sexual orientation. peace

Thats the word all kids use for something they dont like. It can be a sport, sweater, homework assignment, or whatever and thats the word they use to describe it it. Geez thats gay or something to that effect.

i understand kids use it , but do you think young kids struggling with their sexuality appreciate it ? or does it place even more pressure on them to hide their sexuality ? I dont see it as appropriate . ( abuck would be proud of me )

I don't agree with the use of it either, but young kids use it all the time.

As an adjective like calling something "gay" I dont think it bothers them. For one struggling with their sexuality I think it would only bother them if you called them gay. Cause if they arent sure and you accuse them of being "gay" then they might get offended because they are trying to hide their sexuality. Then they would have that doubt in their mind does that person know or dont they. If they do are they going to tell what am I going to do if they tell. Thats the way I see it.

Still better than qweer or dyke,at least its a scientific name, but I do hear a lot of kids using it to degrade something or somebody.Gay also mean happy and excited so I guess we all been gay at one time or another LOL

I feel it's one of those words that has lost it's original conotation and just become slang for something or someone a little off from social norms. When I was young, kids were called retards. No one in their right mind would do that now due to the hightened sensitivity. It may be that the true sting behind "gay" will become recognized for what it is but by, then kids will have moved on to another term.
