No just five. Every team can play a Foundation Game. The rules were established by OHSAA to give the schools another opportunity to play but also give back to the community. I don't believe the Shrine Preview counts toward alloted scrimmages because they only play 2 quarters. Not really sure about that rule but one thing I am sure of is the Warrior coaching staff is on top of things so I'm positive whatever the rule is they will follow it to a T. Looking for "Big Things" on
Rt 339 this winter.

GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Cool. Didn't know Shrine preview was only two quarters.

Foundation game does count as one of your five scrimmages, fwiw.

The Warriors traveled to NY to take on the Buckeyes in a preseason scrimmage tonight.
Winning 5 of 6 quarters the Warriors played hard physical defense and out rebounded the shorter Buckeyes. Warren started Evan Yabs 5'9" Sr, Danny Pannell 6'1" Sr, Evan French 6'4" Jr, Reece Patton 6'4" Jr and Mike Hall 6'6"So. Very athletic with ball handlers at every position. The bench looked deep and experienced.
Great job boys!!!!

The Warriors had a 3 team scrimmage with Philo and Fairfeild Union, this morning at Warren HS. They defense picked it up from last nights scrimmage at NY. The Warriors won all 8 quarters and played several different lineups. Sharing the ball well was a hallmark of today's action. Evan French can flat score the basketball anywhere on the court and 6'6" Soph Mike Hall was a matchup nightmare all day. Usual Warren Warrior basketball dictates shooters and this ream has several. The abundance of shooters will make it tough on ANY team that wants to sit back in a soft zone. A good day 4 Warrior Basketball.

GO BIG BLUE!

Couple nice players but really small. Warren was much bigger except one position. Coaching seemed sound but being so early in the season not sure. I'm pretty sure the Warriors won all 4 quarters played.

Today Warren hosted Fairfeild Christian Acadamy in a scrimmage. From what I was told FCA is supposed to be very good this coming season. If the way they played today is any indication, then they will.
Warren played very well with a noticeable improvement in the defensive and rebounding areas. The team played very selflessly and shared the ball very well. Evan French hit some big shots. Reece Patton and Danny Panell made several hustle plays and playing great D. Evan Yabs ran the offense nicely and handled the defensive pressure getting the Warriors into their offensive sets. Mike Hall was a matchup nightmare. The 6'6" sophomore playing the point position gave the Warrios an added new wrinkle to an already potent offense.
Every quarter was close with a final score of 60-54 Warriors.

Score by quarters

1 2 3 4 Tot
FCA 13 12 14 15 54
Warren 14 12 18 16 60

The Warriors traveled to Cambridge for a scrimmage with the Bobcats last night. Overall winning 4 quarters played 68-58. Cambridge had some good length and tough physical kids that crashed the boards well. The Bobcats had a couple really nice players and coached very well. When the Warriors got out and "ran" the court they looked very very good. The Warriors ability to take the ball to the rim off the bounce and then find the open man was key. Although French is the ringleader he is by no means the only weapon from beyond the arc. Seniors Danny Panell, Evan Yabs, Adam Lang and Matt Drayer all shoot the ball extremely well. As do Patton and Hall. The Warriors had 6 different kids hit 3's during the scrimmage. Leffingwell provides a very tuff physical presence in the paint but that's an area that's going to have to develop as the season goes on.

The Warriors travel to Athens HS Friday to play Trimble in the Shrinner's Preview.

Go Blue!

WarriorBlue - thanks for the info on last nights scrimmage ... how much did Hall play the point for WHS? he's that 6-5 matchup nightmare for opposing teams imo ... usually Cambridge has quick perimeter people who can pressure the ball - was wondering how Hall handled the "on ball" pressure of the Bobcats ...

Actually when he was on the point he handled on the ball pressure quite effectively. Warren used it spuratically but when they did it created the matchup nightmare you speak of. Cambridge had a big that was athletic and could guard away from the basket but it did in fact pull the Bobcats best rebounder away from the basket. When they switched Hall length allowed him to see over the top to make a nice entry pass or get into the paint where his passing and finishing ability was on full display. The real damage was Hall out front on the full court trapping defense. His size and athletic ability smother the smaller Cambridge guards and forced several turnovers or bad shots.
This team will be able to beat you several different ways. Any team that gives up too much trying to slow down French will soon realize the mistake

The Warren Warriors traveled to Waterford last night to tangle with the Wildcats in a OHSAA Foundation Game charity event. Reece Patton led the Warriors with 26 points and a boatload of rebounds many of the the offensive varity. Evan French chipped in with 16 points.
The Warriors struggled shooting the basketball the 1st half and trailed 28-26 at halftime. In the 2nd half they turned up the defensive intensity and shots started falling. The result was a 54-36 win.
The young sophomore Mike Hall struggled shooting the basketball but showed his ability to create and distribute the ball. Danny Pannell and Adam Lang gave the Warriors instant energy while playing lockdown defense. Leffingwell played big and strong in the paint and scored on a couple nice drives to the basket.
All in all the Warriors looked to be ready to start the season at Meigs next Friday night.

Checking out the National Guard JJ Huddle Preseason Power Poll. The Warriors were in the "Keep an Eye On" catogory. The interesting part was that looking over the schedule Warren plays 10 games against teams either ranked(Newark Catholic #2 DIV) or mentioned in the poll. Athens, Cols Upper Arlington, Chillicothe(2), Chesapeake, Portsmouth(2), Fort Frye(2). I knew it was a tuff schedule but whew!!!!

That would be awesome but Newark Catholic is rated 2nd and will be awful tuff. I believe they return all 5 starters back from a team that lost in the Elite 8 to Cols Africentric.
