Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
I only know Teryn through coaching, he inherited a solid group of seniors with a great player Jake Singleton, who currently starts for Marietta College. He was a program assistant there prior to that. It was not a secret that there were going to be some bad years after that class graduated as everything was focused on that group and the three that graduated prior to them. Programs are more than a varsity team, he didn't run from the challenge, he made the most of it and invested in the whole program. They play in the Cambridge SEO youth league that my kids play in, he was doing it the right way. If he is given a chance he will do well, coaches know which coaches do it right, he is respected by area coaches over here. Wishing him the best of luck moving forward.NewEra wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 7:28 amInherited a loaded senior class with nothing behind it. He easily could have easily parleyed the year 1 success to another job but he elected to stay at Meadowbrook.EagleNut14 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 6:57 am Caldwellbasketball you said that he inherited a mess? From looking at it from my point of view it looks like he inherited a pretty good team winning the district in his first season?

Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
I have a friend who has been in both weight rooms and there is no "Probably". His opinion of Waverly's weight room is top notch. As far as returning talent, everybody will have their own opinion "BUT" Waverly returns everybody and Eastern graduates their top scorer and the 3rd leading scorer. Most people will give the nod to Waverly.EagleNut14 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 6:49 am Facilities yes they’re nicer. Baseball program a lot better not even close. Weight room nicer probably so. Basketball talent returning is a toss up IMO. What about culture though? I have heard a lot noise coming from Waverly in football and basketball and it’s the good noise either. I’ve heard that players have made the comments they was done passing the ball to certain teammates on the court! I’ve heard that players parents told their kid to stop passing the ball to certain players. By the end of the end of the year that locker was not good as they had lost 11 in row. Could it have been the coach? Maybe so but I think it was way more than the coach.
I'm not sure anybody wants to bring up culture in regards to Eastern Football unless you have an agenda. They had a great year in '24 no question about it and congrats to them. But I have a co-worker with first hand experience of Eastern football and you might be pushing a false narrative in regards to culture within the football progam. .
As far as the what you have heard about Waverly players and parents, I don't know because I'm not involved with the situation. But it sounds like you are trying to push a false narrative that will turn kids against Waverly and recruit them to Eastern. First, Waverly lost their last 9 regular season games not 11 as you stated. I looked on Maxpreps. They when beat Washington C.H. in the opening round of the tournament. If their players had given up on each other then they wouldn't have won that game. Then they upset the #2 seeded Jackson Ironmen in their second round game. Again if their "Culture" was so bad then no-way they win that game. They then got beat in the District Finals by 3th seeded Unioto. So you speak of a bad locker room but at tournament time your theory of a bad locker room just doesn't add up. That is based off the results of the tournament not personal feelings and trying to recruit kids to a school.
Of course all this is .... "Just My Opinion". Others may not feel the same way.
Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
Its my opinion,
U kind of contradict yourself here, u say waverly's culture cant be bad because they won in the tourney, yet Eastern's football culture is not good , we have won 3 straight Soc championships, back to back undefeated seasons , and a regional runner up season this year, and are primed to do it again next season, and our culture isnt what its supposed to be . wow.
and your list of comparing schools is off on some things , i feel u left a few details out intentionally, but we could debate this all day, the bottom line is , i am sure the parents will do what is best for their kids , maybe that is to stay at Waverly, maybe its to transfer to Eastern or somewhere else . Who Knows , i hope they make the best decision for them .

EPN,
You are exactly right in the fact we could debate this topic all day long. As far as comparing schools, I don't figure I will ever change your mind (and that is not my goal) and I know you will never change my mind on the topic. So you can agree to disagree.
But I'm not on a public forum trying to recruit any students to a specific school as "EagleNut14" was. My post was in response to a post by somebody pushing what I consider a false narrative. Is my opinion correct? To me it is but to somebody else it may not be. I'm strictly bringing out points that are contrary to EagleNut14 post.

Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
I’m not pushing no false narratives them are facts! I heard that from two different families from Waverly and one of the players. I also seen screenshots of moms getting on social media calling out other moms etc…
As far as beating Jackson in the tournament you know the reason why Waverly beat Jackson in the tournaments and that’s because of Kage.
Itsjustmyopinion you sound like a Waverly parent that is on here trying to convince yourself and others that everything is great when deep down you know it’s not. Just keep thinking Waverly is way up there and everyone else is around is way down below you. That’s why we loved playing and beating Waverly! Maybe everything works out and maybe you guys can win your fourth SOC Championship in 30 years of league play.

I just got informed this morning that changes will be made with the baseball program in Beaver and that the board is going to pursue Tom Monroe to take over the program. I seen Alexander’s dad walk Eastern baseball team to the regionals in 06 and that was without having a home field to play on. Imagine what Tom and a couple transfer could do!!

Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
You need to do a little homework because I have openly admitted I'm a SVC guys. I don't have any connection to Waverly or even Pike County except for having co-workers from that area. I'm just a life-long southern Ohio sports fan so to think I'm connected to Waverly Schools, you are way off.EagleNut14 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 11:36 am I’m not pushing no false narratives them are facts! You are only stating your opinion not facts just like I'm stating my opinion and not facts.
As far as your theory why Waverly beating Jackson, that is your opinion and not fact. I happened to be at Southeastern for that game and the Alexander boys was very good but in my opinioin it was a very good team effort that night. Alexander might have scored but there were other good performances. Using that philosophy the only reason Waverly won was the Alexander kid then you are saying the only reason Eastern had a good season was because the Leist kid was a good scorer (He is graduating). They had another good players as well.
As far as trying to convince myself that Waverly is great .... I'm not trying to convince myself of anything. I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm just stating my opinion in regards to the false narrative that the grass is greener on the other side. That is strictly your opinon just like my opinion is that it isn't.
As far as you coming on a public forum and stating there is going to be changes in the baseball program. That can't be in the best interest of the kids on this year's team. Every parent or person associated with this year's baseball team has to be concerned with the a community member starting issues for this year's team. It sounds like the things you said were happening in the basketball program at Waverly is happening in the baseball program at Eastern. So in my opinion .... the grass is not greener on the Eastside.

Is Alexander the favorite to take over at QB for Waverly next season? He’s already starting as a freshman in both basketball and baseball, so I’d be surprised to see him leave Waverly, regardless who named basketball coach.*

Welcome Mr. Jarrett.
And like I said before, don’t look for any departures. This group is together. They are looking forward to a fresh start.

This would come so far out of left field it’s not even in the field of play. Tom is right around 75 and retired from HC at Waverly back in the late 90s. Not happeningEagleNut14 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 11:46 am I just got informed this morning that changes will be made with the baseball program in Beaver and that the board is going to pursue Tom Monroe to take over the program. Congrats to Jarrett, solid hire and there’s talent there for sure. Needs to start with a closed door meeting with parents once he gets settled in but I look forward to see things get turned around.smurray wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 9:21 pm Welcome Mr. Jarrett.

Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
I think he’ll be left at WR if he plays and Gunner could take over. Cage is much more athletic but not sure if he really wants to take that beating behind that OL. Cage and Hez on the outside would be the best option for the offense. It’ll be a tough season regardless of who plays QBart_vandelay wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 1:56 pm Is Alexander the favorite to take over at QB for Waverly next season? Congratulations to the new head coach/mentor/teacher of the game - Coach Teryn Jarrett ! Welcome to life Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line you have inherited one of the most talented young teams in Southern/Southeast Ohio ... I witnessed the youngsters mature in the post season in late February and March as they made the run to Basketball :30 at the Convo for district play ... YOU have seen the best of the best in the MVL having had to face the current State Champion Maysville Panthers, Tri Valley, John Glenn, New Lexington, Philo, Coshocton, Sheridan in league play ... you KNOW what good looks like, you KNOW what those teams brought to the court to make the MVL such a strong league ... all of this you bring to Tiger Nation and I trust will be able to impart in the development of this talented group into league and post season contenders ... I've heard good things about your philosophy - fundamentals, defense, TEAM; along with you knowing that programs are built from the youth programs UP ... Waverly with it's basketball history along with Tiger Nation is a great community to land as a HC ... Basketball in the SE District is much better when the Waverly Tigers are part of the conversation ... I wish you the best Coach Jarrett, looking forward to seeing the continued growth on the court by this talented group of Tigers at the Downtown Arena under your direction - pfloyd

Only time will tell if the Insane Parent Posse will give this guy a chance.
Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
Teryn will not disappoint. The fact that he won any games at Meadowbrook after year 1 is amazing in itself. He never stopped coaching those kids..others would have ran. Stand up guy and knows ball.
