... I get that Notre Dame had a lot of youth on the varsity roster - 6 freshmen listed - BUT they lost their starters Landon Barbarits/Aaryn Bradford/Myles Phillips/Brady Davis ... am I missing something here by not seeing ND winning the SOC1? or is it that the rest of the SOC1 is not very talented ...HamPorter wrote: Fri Apr 11, 2025 9:26 am Just a bit down the road
South Webster or Wheelersburg
Eastern
Notre Dame
Those leagues won’t be nearly as good but might be more even next year
Re: SOC
SOC1 - Green - led by 6-4 Jon Knapp
SOC2 - Symmes Valley - will be better than last seasons really good SV squad with Carpenter, Corn, Maynard, Simpkins /Eastern Pike with Werner/Leist/ Webb (need to find offense to replace T Leist & Declan Davis) as the front runners
SOC3 - Wheelersburg with their senior group McGraw/Rucker/ Bivens/Evans / South Webster with a solid group of returnees - Hunter Barnard, Burton, McClintic, Stephens, Barnard the younger / Waverly should be outstanding - has all of the pieces - Myers x 2, Alexander, Hurt, Russell, Nibert / I'm big on Portsmouth West this coming season with Wolfenbarker/Kegley/Miller/Quirasco as an excellent returning group / Lucasville Valley should be outstanding this season as well Copen/Lundy/Conaway/Jaxyn Bender - athleticism/each bringing a lot to the table ... Minford - I get it the Big 3 have graduated BUT the names Curtis Glenn/Ashton Reeder/Colt Donahoe are a good nucleus to anchor a good team for a follow up to a Final Four run
... the SOC3 should be an excellent league across the board in 2025-26 ... the pfloyd tour will be making many trips to SOC3-land this winter ... hopefully these teams "schedule UP" in the non-league games - getting into some of the in-season classics to take on some quality opponents from other leagues around Southern/Southeast Ohio ...

Re: SOC
Soc 1 will be ND not even close
2 Symmes Valley
3 Waverly Ill admit that might be stretch
Green has zero help for Knapp and he doesn't have it to take it upon himself.

Re: SOC
... is there anyone on the ND roster besides "Barbarits the younger" with varsity experience? What does New Boston have returning besides McNeal ? trying to figure out who has a nucleus of talent returning - Portsmouth East? Portsmouth Clay? ISJ ?Waverlyguru01 wrote: Tue Apr 15, 2025 7:33 pm Soc 1 will be ND not even close

Re: SOC
ND had a very good Jv team I would give ISJ The nod to win if not ND. ISJ has some talent coming up to go with last year. The Soc 1 as a whole will be weak.
NB not much
East will be down
Clay is Clay and didn't win many games in HS or JH them and East fight to stay out of the cellar.

Re: SOC
Not so fast on crowning ND the SOC I champ. Green will be good with Knapp he is a handful so Green will be in the mix for the SOC. Ironton St.Joe will be down some what but will make it hard on teams with that 1-3-1 zone they run. Glenwood will be better they will be sophomore heavy but those sophomores are working to get better and Mcneil and a couple of those sophomores are playing AAU this spring and you can bet that Coach Cox and his staff will have the young Tigers ready to play. Clay will have a new coach and a new outlook for the Panthers so we will see how that goes and East not sure what they will have I know they lost three seniors that scored some of their points and not sure who they will replace them with. The SOC i should be fun to watch next winter. I look forward to seeing these teams play in June and when the season starts.

Re: SOC
ND and St Joe will split.
ND was a veteran team last year with bringing in Garrett B and also Kennedy McGraw who got solid playing time throughout the tournament. ND will be well coached and they will find what works with their crew to make them a contender once again in the SOC I. I think scoring will be an issue for the Titans.
St. Joe trapping 1-3-1 i can see will give teams fit. I believe they will go on a run to start season then teams may figure out the 1-3-1 trap and they will slow down 2nd half of season.
Green has to do a better job of getting Knapp the basketball. Against bad teams yes he can score but they need to find ways to get him the basketball against good teams.
NB will be a 1 man show. Get Mcneil off the 3 point line and make him make decisions. NB staff basically runs the local AAU program, I am 100% against varsity coaches being able to coach AAU. NB will lose games due to coaching. The AAU style he runs only works with kids that create on offense and play out of control on defense. He had that his first couple years at NB. Last couple years he hasn't had that type of talent and look what has happened. He needs to adjust to the type of team he has.
Clay only lost 1 senior I believe, they will have more experience and hopefully admin/community will give him time with a solid freshman class coming up. More than what they have had last couple of years coming up. I look for Clay to be better than what they have been. Be ready for 1-3-1 trapping zone.
East is a head scratcher, I think they would be better than what they were last year and the year before.

Re: SOC
I just don't think green has enough to win that conference
Knapp will probably average high 20's next year because i don't know who else on that team is going to score
I think Symmes will be good with bronx carpenter there he averaged around 15 as a freshman
