Way to go Pointers. SP wins in a very poorly ref'd game. It was horrible and anyone who was there knows it. HORRIBLE. Sp wins with 2pt shot by Weed with 2secs left.

Way to go Pointers!!! JV game also went to the wire with the Pointers undefeated in both games!!!! Whoooooo Hooooooo! South Point was down 13-0 to start the game and came back and were up by one at the half. Toward the end the Pointers were up by 10 and the dragons came storming back! SP better work on breaking the press and quit letting the defense get set up!

Pointers remain undefeated with thrilling win over Fairland
By: T. J. Layne

PROCTORVILLE, OH-The South Point Pointers have played a lot of big games this season, but none quite as big as January 4th’s game against OVC conference opponent Fairland. Both the Pointers and Dragons came into the game undefeated, but only one team would remain perfect at the end of 32 minutes.

The game started out all Fairland as they opened with a 13-0 run. Led by three three pointers, the Fairland lead was cut to 18-13 to end the first quarter. To start the second quarter, Fairland went back up as many as ten points. However, in the final four minutes of the quarter, the Pointers slowly but surely started cutting into the Dragons lead. In the closing stages of the quarter, Todd Mayo hit a three to make it a one point game and then Zach Woody went back down the floor with a two pointer to give the Pointers a 31-30 lead to end the first half.

Continuing the theme of being a strong second half team, the Pointers led the entire third quarter and stretched their lead 54-46 to end the quarter. In the opening stages of the fourth quarter, the Pointers led by as many as ten points. However, Fairland slowly but surely started cutting into the Pointer lead in the final four minutes of the game. With around a minute and half remaining, the Dragons took their first lead since the second quarter as a two point bucket and foul shot put them up 70-68. South Point went back down the floor and tied the game at 70 to set up another exciting finish with now only around thirty seconds remaining.

When Fairland got the ball back, a Chase Kratzenburg foul put the Dragons at the line with only 11 seconds left. The Dragons made their first shot but missed the second as the Pointers took it back down the floor trailing by one point. With triple coverage on Todd Mayo, Mayo somehow made an amazing pass to Beau Weed who was wide open under the bucket as he put it in to give South Point a one point lead with two seconds remaining! Fairland missed the last second half court shot as the Pointers remain undefeated with a 72-71 win! This is the second game in a row that Beau Weed has hit the game winning shot in the final seconds.

Todd Mayo had an amazing game as he put up 37 points to lead the Pointers in scoring. Mayo also came through in the clutch as he scored 12 of South Points 16 points scored in the fourth quarter. Seniors Beau Weed and Zach Woody were second on Pointers scoring with 11 points each. With the win, the Pointers are now 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in OVC conference play. The game had four lead changes and one tie. The South Point JV team also remained undefeated with a 38-35 win.

The Pointers will next be in action on Tuesday, January 8th for a home game at the new Pointer Gym against OVC rival Chesapeake. The Lady Pointers will next be in action on Monday, January 7th in a huge OVC conference match-up against rival Coal Grove. That game will see an earlier start as the JV game will tip at 5:30. The Lady Pointers game scheduled for January 3rd at Rock Hill has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 12th at 1:00 pm. The Pointers game on January 8th will start with the JV game at 6:00 pm. Just as expected, a GREAT game. And when was the last time SP started out at 8-0 or 9-0, whichever our record is? The Pointers gave me a scare when they were down early in the first, but they played hard to get back into the game. Keep the wins coming!!!

i know where you are going with this mom.probably, 20 your guy couldn't contain him.bottom line is fairland got away from thier game,40 minutes of hell, pressing and running.they played a half court game and thats not what they do best.if they make free throws and finish under the basket then they would of won by 10 of 15.good thing this was a league game, they will have another chance to play thier game.

Mayo had 16 in the first half, and 21 in the second with 12 being in the fourth quarter. This was a great game, and it lived up to the billing. Hatfield led Fairland with 25, and 17 in the fourth quarter. Another key was South Point hitting 9-14 (Mayo 6-9) from three to Fairlands 3-16 (Hatfield made 2).

Good coaching on Fairlands part could have shut him down or atleast made it harder for him , he had it to easy . FHS got away from their style , they should have won this game but there are others . Its a shame really , SP is not as good a team as FHS but the kids can only do so much.

First off let me congrat sp on their big OVC win. FHS missed too many easy shots especially the first half. It also hurt when Bloomfield went out with a possible broken thumb, also the dragons took a couple of questionable shots at the end of the game. If Fairland doesn't get a technical they win by 1. IMO Fairland didn't play their best where Mayo and SP played the best that they could. Put this one behind you green and get ready for RV. GO GREEN!!!!!!!!

i want to congratulate south point on their big win as well, but in my post im not going to tell everyone how fairland couldve/shouldve done this and couldve/shouldve done that to win and that it was their game to take but they gave it away. Because in fact, they did not give the game away, it was actually taken from them by a team with more heart and more effort. The last post made me register to this site and actually comment for once. Bucking Red gave all responsibility for fairlands loss to fairland with no thoughts that maybe they werent the better team. You say that fairland didnt play well....could that have been the defense of south point that inhibited their play? You say that mayo had it too easy......the only thing further that you could do was to put a saddle on him and ride around the gym. Todd Mayo was fouled EVERYTIME he had the ball and sometimes more than once in a possession and he still seemed to get 37 points...But hey, who am I, I'm just one person but if you asked anyone else in the building with 2 functional eyes they would tell you the same thing.....with all this ranting and raving i just wanted to simply give south point some credit..thank you...good job south point, keep up the good work

Well first of all welcome to SEOP. There was bad calls both ways I do believe. And if it SP defense let made them miss point blank shots then I hope they give us those shots again. Sp shot lights out last night and the dragons didn't. I would agree that the pointers showed a lot last night and I look forward to our next game. And I'll bet that is the best game up to now for the pointer's and I know it wasn't ours. This game is over now on to RV. GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!
