How does Dawes compare to Givens as a post player? Because if I am remembering right, Guthrie had Givens and Chambers on him last year and could not be shut down. This game will ride on the guard play. Either the Vikes handle the ball, break the press and compete; or they will have a very long night. I believe they will be prepared! Good luck to both teams, I'm hoping they all stay healthy and injury free.
Go Vikes!

Guthrie had a great 1st half last year (I think he had 12 @the half), but in the 2nd half VC went away fron the game plan and went to a perimiter type of "O". Which, if I'm remembering correctly pulled Dut out from the basket. At this point Givens killed the Vikes with his boards, VC was 1 and done for the rest of the night.

I feel VC is a better team this year, as opposed to last years team, Guthrie and Prater are more polished and better on the boards. The guard play of VC, although scoring less, seem to be better ball handlers. Grillo has came a long way this year and has turned out to be a very nice Point Guard. It is nice to know he will be running the Vikings offense for the next 2 years.

GO VIKES!!!!!

Seth is a very strong kid and will not be shoved around on the block and he has better athleticism than Guthrie,
I have not seen Seth play but to say he is more athletic then Dustin may be a little premature, let us not forget Dustin is also being heavily recruited for football too, there are not many that are going to push him around. That being said this should be a great game and I look forward to all the updates that I have been the greatful benefactor of.

Say what you want right now Vinton seems to be playing as a team and want to win! Although ball handling may be an issue as far as the press is concerned, but if it become a real problem in my opinion Coach Combs may want to have Dustin bring the ball in. He is strong physically, he see the court better then most, and yes even being 6'-5" he is a very good ball handler, he could be used to get the ball in and then rush down to the block and work in that tantum that seems to be working so well right now. There point is we have many many options alot of the players are not stuck in one position.

GOOD LUCK VIKINGS...I WILL BE PULLING FOR YOU HERE!! TVC RULES

[quote="Dshanton3"]IMO Seth Dawes has better athleticism than Guthrie

I hope that Dawes believes this!
Last year it took Chambers & Givens to slow Dut down. If Seth can stop him 1 on 1, he will be the first. :?:

Dut can handle the ball well. He will probably help bring it down if & when Chilli presses.

You must have never seen Dut play to be able to make such a statement!
Dawes is a fine athlete in his own right, but not more so than Dut!

Are you kidding me? for one lets clear up that ray never even guarded Guthrie, it was givens. And yes guthrie had an amazing 1st half, but he was non existent in the 2nd half of last year's game. 3rd, i don't know if you've seen dawes play this year but you will be surprised with his athleticism come thursday. You make it sound like guthrie is the next bj mullens. The kid is good but like i said if Ray brings his A game and Guthrie brings his ray single handedly can take over a game period.

like i said before as well i wanna know who's going to tame humpty.

I hear Dustin's brother, Dylan, will have the assignment of guarding "Humpty".
:122245 He's gonna get a little physical with him.

Vinton County will be makin' it's own bread Thursday night at the Convo!!

Gee, another comparison to Captain Jack. :122246 How lucky can a guy be?

It's no secret, Ty. Anyone can clearly see that in order to shut down "humpty", you have to get physical with him. Vinton County is just puttin' speed on speed.

So, you're indicating that if Ray chooses to "Bring his A game," Dustin Guthrie has NO chance of being effective and Chambers will simply take over the game?

Hmmmmmm....that's interesting.

First let me stop laughing!!
You must be family to Chambers.
I love this!!! It seems like every time VC played a team with a decent bigman we all heard the same arguments. We heard it when we played Waverly because of Walls (who had a pretty good game @ Chilly). Dut dominated him. We heard when we played Belpre with Phalgraph (sp), once again dominated, against Waterford with Cunningham, Dut only had 30 pts in that one. And of course against GM everyone hear knows what Guthrie did in that one. When Guthrie brings his "A" game he can take over aswell. Ball handling, Blocking shots, boards, shoot 3's. This will be a great matchup, but to say if Chambers brings his best stuff he will take over the game? You are either delusional or have not seen Guthrie play.
I hope Ray thinks like you, all he has to do is show up and Guthrie will dissapear.

Well you must be so in love with VC that they an do no wrong. And theoretically if Ray is thinking like me, and i'm saying Ray needs to bring his A game to take over the game, you can't just show up and bring your "A" game. Think about it.

All Chillicothe needs to do in order to win is: Press/Defend well and not worry so much about Guthrie. Give him the treatment other schools have given Hitchens: let the supporting cast beat you.

For VC to win: Break the press and consume the clock/ Limit transition. Feed Guthrie every possession but not necessarily in order to score each time. Play the best defense of their life and make the Cavalier's supporting cast beat you.

Good luck to both teams. Represent your communities well.

Frankly I hope all the players bring their "A" game. That is what this time of year is all about. I know all the players are nerveous and anxious about this game and there is alot on the line.

THe one things the Vikings do know is that it takes 5 to beat 5 and Guthrie will not be the only one to look out for. Dylan is very physical and would start on any other team. That should be a fun matchup I beleive the family calls him "The Big Red Blood Clot" lets see if he can stop Humpty....

I will be sitting on the top of a Mountain in Alaska when this game is played and I will be rooting for the VIKINGS to show everyone that the TVC will not be taken lightly.  Leave it on the hardwood and someone please keep me update.

seth is an all ohio baseball player who will get drafted out of high school. i keep seeing where you vc people think chilli's underestimating your players, yet, i see the same thing from you guys about chilli players. be as physical as you want with humpty. you wont stop him. he has played against alot better competition this season than he'll see in athens.

A positive thing for chilli in this one is that they can switch people on and off of guthrie. but like many have already stated guthrie has graet talent and will be able to adjust, I think.? but for VC, will they have enough people to gaurd chambers to help guthrie stay out of foul trouble. VC can't afford to have him on the bench. I'm not sure if prater has the ability to help guard chambers. IMO

I think that Dyl Guthrie would be a good match-up on Humpty
I remember a few years ago his nickname was Wheels
