Good luck to the Ironmen tonight! Jackson was able to play well and get a win over rival Wellston earlier this week. Hopefully another fierce rival will bring out the best in Jackson once again.

We don't need a win......we are on a 1 game winning streak.

Should be a pretty good game.....Jackson must shoot and hit some 3's in this game....minimum of 4 makes to win.

WOW! What a night of basketball!

JV game...Jackson down 8 midway through the 4th
freshman Colt Chapman goes down with an injury....comes back and drills a at the buzzer to tie the game.....Jackson prevails in OT

Varsity

6/12 on 3's......Landrum off the bench immediately hit 3 3's in his first 4 minutes to give Jackson a 5 point lead at the half. Andrew Christman with 11 boards....Dylan Newsome is an amazingly gifted stat filler for a smaller player....near 20 points and 10 rebounds again...Dobbins in double digits, Kip Winchester played nearly the entire game and was solid with a big 3 and numerous rebounds.

Tremendous atmosphere.

Best I've seen Jackson play since Morrow, Arnold and Humphreys.

Congrats to the Ironmen! Back-to-back wins over two huge rivals. Seems like the Ironmen have a lot of confidence right now. Keep working hard because it's beginning to pay off.

As for playing the bench more.....They had a bad spell later in the 4th qtr and that can very well be attributed to being tired as Jordan pretty much just played a 6 man rotation....but the deficit never got any closer than 8 and those same tired players were the same ones who got the marrgin back up to 12 for the rest of the game.

They may have been tired......but how many times have they played in that situation? Could've been inexperience of holding onto a comfortable lead.

In all previous games Jordan has played 8 or 9 in his rotation.....with very litte flow from the 5 he put out there. For a very long stretch with D Newsome, Dobbins, Christman, Winchester and Landrum....that's the best and smartest I've seen Jackson play since Dustan Ford coached Morrow, Arnold, Humphreys and gang. He definately has 3 or 4 other kids that can fill in for valuable minutes every game....but I think he is still feeling his way to his best rotation. It's hard to argue with the old guy with the results and execution of the past 2 games.

Jackson runs past Gallipolis 55-43 for first league win

In what was billed as “the battle between two legendary coaches,” Jackson’s Larry Jordan got the best of Gallipolis’ Jim Osborne in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League South Division contest on the Jackson hardwood Friday evening.

Jordan, winner of the coveted 2008 Paul Walker Award during last year’s state tourney, guided his Ironmen to a hard-fought 55-43 win over Osborne’s Blue Devils. Osborne is scheduled to receive the 2009 Paul Walker Award during this year’s Division II state finals on Saturday, March 28 at The Schott in Columbus.

During the past 40 years, Jordan and Osborne coached teams have produced 1,090 high school wins—Jordan 570 and Osborne 520.

Friday, a rare feat occurred at Jackson—Ironmen cagers defeated all three Gallipolis hardwood teams in one night. In the evening’s first game, the JHS frosh won 38-26. In the reserve contest, the Blue Imps were upset 45-44 in overtime for the Ironboys first league victory. Then came the nightcap in which Jackson outhustled the Gallians to capture their first conference victory of the 2008-09 campaign.

Gallipolis jumped out in front 5-0 during the first 1:30 of play, but Jackson bounced back to take a 10-8 lead after one quarter. The Ironmen, behind Eric Landrum’s three treys, held a 25-20 halftime advantage. After three quarters, JHS had all but put the game on ice with a 41-27 lead.

Dylan Newsome led JHS with 18 points. Morgan Dobbins finished with 12, Landrum and Andrew Christman had nine each. Kip Winchester chipped in with seven.

Jackson connected on 20 of 43 field goal attempts for 46.5 percent. JHS was six of 12 behind the arc for 50 percent and sank nine of 15 free throws for 60 percent. Jackson had 12 personals, 22 rebounds, 11 by Christman, and 12 turnovers.

Kyle Mitchell paced GAHS with 21 points. Quinton Nibert added nine and Chris Armstrong eight. GAHS hit 16 of 46 field goal attempts for 34.7 percent. The Blue Devils were four of 15 behind the arc and seven of eight (all by Mitchell) at the line for 87.5 percent.

The Gallians had 18 personals and 33 rebounds, 10 by Armstrong and six each by Troester and Mitchell. GAHS had eight assists, four by Moore, and four steals, two by Armstrong. GAHS had 18 deflections. Gallipolis finished with 15 turnovers during the 32-minute battle.

Gallipolis will travel to Chillicothe Tuesday for another tripleheader with the frosh game starting at 5 p.m. Jackson will host Ironton.

In Friday’s opening contest, Coach Tyler Swackhammer’s Jackson frosh rolled to a 38-26 win over his former Gallipolis team. Swackhammer coached the GAHS frosh during the 2007-08 season before moving to Jackson last fall.

Jackson led 14-10, 23-12, and 33-16 at the quartermarks, The Jackson frosh improved to 4-5 while GAHS dropped to 4-6 on the year. Joel Johnston led GAHS with 13 points. Drew Young added six. Alec Ray led JHS with 11 points. Aaron Jones added 10.

In the reserve game, GAHS blew a 10-point lead (29-19) with 6:34 remaining in the game, then lost in an overtime, 45-44. It was the Blue Imps second straight defeat after winning their first seven games.

The loss dropped GAHS to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in league play. Jackson improved to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in SEOAL action.

Jared Golden’s two free throws gave the Blue Imps a 29-19 lead with 6:34 left but Jackson’s Ironboys reeled off eight unanswered points to pull within two, 29-27, on a freebie by Travis Walker with 4:42 left to play.

Golden’s two freebies gave the Blue Imps a 31-27 advantage with 4:28 to go, but Jackson’s Luke Eisnaugle got a layup (4:13) and Walker a goal to knot the score at 31-all with 3:37 left. Walker's two freebies (3:13) gave JHS a 33-31 lead. Nate Allison’s layup tied it again at 33-all with 2:56 to go.

Colt Chapman’s charity toss gave JHS a 34-33 edge (2:17). Allison’s goal gave the Imps the lead 35-34 with 1:25 left. Zack Miller’s two free throws put JHS back on top, 36-35 with one minute left.

With 28 seconds left, Tyler Eastman’s two free tosses made it 37-36 and Jordan Cornwell’s two free throws gave the Gallians a 39-36 advantage. GAHS missed two free shots with seven seconds left, then Jackson’s Chapman launched a three at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Jackson outscored GAHS 6-5 in the overtime to secure the victory. Golden led the Blue Imps with 14 points. Cory Eberhard added seven and Nate Allison six while Cornwell finished with five. Miller paced Jackson with13 points. Klay Arthur and Eisnaugle had eight apiece and Walker seven.

I certainly didn't sit there and count.....but it's hard to believe Jackson had just 22 rebounds. Christman had 11...sounds about right and I heard after the game report that Newsome had 6? (seems like he was MUCH closer to 10 and if he did have just 6 and Christman had 11........Winchester had to have at least 5...which means no other Ironman got a rebound.....which I really can't recall Dobbins, K newsome or Landrum getting a rebound....but it's hard to believe.

That is the one main area I thought Jackson struggled....especially in the 1st half and OFTEN on a shot only Newsome or Christman were in any position to grab a board.

Jottings.....Jordan has 570 (which I'm sure you just mixed up as the combo total is 1090)
