Haha... that is funny.Hoggy wrote:I know a fan that used to attend some Pike county games.....let's just call him Justin McBee, and he would get thrown out by one of his buddies that was a referee. They never lost friendship, but it was comical to watch Justin's face turn blood red as he was escorted from the gym.
He was never fined and was only escorted from the gym and made to leave the school grounds.

I was scouting this game.HoopsRef wrote:Well I think we as refs should write to ol' Ted Strickland and see if he can pass a law that if you do get thrown out... you go to jail. I remember a game @ Ironton, and some goon came down the steps from the visiting team (South Point), screamed at an official and then "Bumped" him on the way up the sideline. The official hit the whistle, summonsed thr Law enforcement and the fan was arrested for assault! He was tried and convicted of that! Also he was barred from ALL sporting events while he was on his 5 yrs. probation! I commend the judge for his ruling!
One final note: Why piss one off when you can piss the whole crowd off? I was born for this stuff blockcharge!!!!!

I like that one.boomer633 wrote:In between quarters of a game a female ref was standing by the stands. LMAOnewlex/sheridan wrote:Boomer, that's a great one. I used a time out in a game last winter to demonstrate a proper jump stop and pivot to a JV official. He tried to tell me that it was a travel (and that night apparently it was because he called it every single time it happened), I insisted that it wasn't, my buddy was coaching Tri-Valley's reserves against my boy's and is laughing his butt off, the official said "coach there is no such thing as a jump stop, it's called a pro-hop and it is legal because you jump again after you land, if you stay on the floor and try to pivot it is a travel." He nearly left me speechless, I did manage to laugh and say "you must be right, that's probably why you have been a JV official for ten years." Needless to say he wasn't impressed and I finished the game in my seat.
I also had a book keeper for a junior high game I was coaching several years back get tossed for throwing the book across the floor when he felt his son was being roughed up on consecutive possessions. There were a couple bad parts to this story, one was the fact that it was a tied game with 20 seconds to play and they assessed a technical foul to our bench because he was our book. Oh yeah, he was also the speaker of the state house of representatives at that time.

Went to a Monroe Central (old Skyvue) gym last winter and a whole family, parents and grandparents got tossed, I think it was the JV game.
Never ever seen that in sixty years of going to games.

jr high games are the worst. jr high boys fans across the county are hilarious. however, it is the most important thing in the world. we all can certainly remember who the 7th grade champs were 6 years ago can't we...lol

I have never been tossed from a game, though I did come close during a sectional tourney game back when Andrew Burleson was a senior. I can't recall who the Burg was playing or where the game was being played, maybe Jackson, but I was sitting right behind the scorers table and close to the floor. There was a black official working the game and he hadn't made made one call the entire game even though Andrew was being pounded on every shot. The Burg was up about 25 or 30 points and he finally blew his whistle when someone clobbered Andrew on a drive to the bucket and as he came to the scorers table I said loud enough for him to hear it, "Well, what do you know, your whistle does actually work" He looked right at me and asked if I'd like to leave and I told him "Fine with me, we're up 30 points and I'm tired of watching you not make any calls". I was surpirsed when he just laughed, shook his head, and went back on the floor. I kept my mouth shut the rest of game, mostly because my wife threatened my life if I said anything else. lol
Re: Thrown out of a game.
I was attending a jr hi basketball game back in the late 80's. One of the referees was getting his first year of officiating out of the way. It was a very physical game, a game that went back and forth all game. This particular official was in front of the visiting teams stands and he called a foul on the visiting team. The coach jumped up and went crazy, screaming, the home teams player was walking to the line to shoot his free throws, the ref is getting ready to hand him the ball and a snickers bar comes flying out of the stands and hits the official. The snickers bar came from the schools principal! He was tossed out of the gym and the visiting team lost the game on the free throws made from the technical foul.

Never been tossed. Threatened once as a fan, and the entire gym was shocked that I was singled out by the refs. The home team fans even came to my defense and pulled me aside afterward, to tell me what tools the two guys were wearing the white shirts in their gym. That was up at St. Clairsville.
Threatened as a coach once, a long time ago, in Belpre no less. That tale is for another day.

Re: Thrown out of a game.
I will never forget my Sophomore year in the Sectional Finals at Waverly. We (Valley) were either the #8 or #9 seed (playing a lot of sophomores and juniors) and we are playing the #1 Southeastern. They were loaded and were somewhere in the 19-2/20-1 range. They had the 6'10" Netter, Wood, and Tyler Barbie. They were a great team. We battled and played them very tough. Midway through the 4th quarter we are up a bucket or two and the game is getting very physical. There is a no call on a play in the paint, and a fan from Southeastern stands up and chucks a wad of tobacco on the floor. He was ejected but it seems to sway momentum. The Panthers (mainly Barbie-I think he had 35+) hit a few shots down the stretch and they came back to beat us. A very crazy afternoon at the downtown gym.
