Jumper,

Don't know much about Kitchen, but did see forst hand last year and have heard in basketball circles that Green has a good core of outstanding young talent. Most that I have spoken with feel that they underachieved last season. They have to be considered one of the favorites next year.

im not throwing stones here but to put 4 win eastern team above a 16 win western team that returns all three of there leading scorers might be a little silly

Western returns 3 key players....not their 3 leading scorers (Kier was one of their best and he's gone!)

However, on paper, I agree as does most everyone that Western has more returning "talent."

Eagles fans just hope they overlook us :-)

kier was one of westerns best, but with him gone this year, that just allows someone else to step up and take his place. the tribe will miss him, but its time to see what the others can do. shanks, if played right this year, should be an unstoppable force. smithson and penwell both have the talent if they can harness it. im looking forward to this year's season. it should be an interesting run for SOC I. goooo indians!

i think that the 6'7 bakanhaster kid can be a big problem in the post for opposeing offenses and flint has a lot of openfloor speed to put pressure on other teams deffenses

Size is a factor. But, from what I hear, the addition of Thornsberry will definately help Eastern's transition game. 6-7 won't matter if he's beat down the floor

my only fear of said kids is that they didnt see much varsity action last year. that worries me, but hopefully they have stepped up their game and are ready for the big boys this year. at 6'7" bakanhaster IS the big boy, just hope his game is as big as he is. GOOOOOOO WESTERN!

Western will have a monster front line. Shanks(6-6), banh.....(6-7), Smithson (6-3), and this big kid as well. Could it be a long year for the rest of the SOCI against the Indians?

all of latham's fingers are crossed! id like to see this group of seniors at least make it back to athens one more time. like you said, with the height of the team, WHS should be unstoppable. it looks like all eyes will be on the tribe this season. i hope they dont let us down. theres a lot of athletic ability, just hope they can let it all out at the same time!!

I hope your right but unless,FLINT,HALL,andPENWELL, can penatrait the paint and handle the ball to alow VINCE,and the big boys to play in the post some come tournament time we might not get any farther than sectionals.we need whoever is at the point to handle the pressure of the job i know hall and flint have worked hard all summer.HARROP,andKIGHT have worked on them this summer so we will see GOOOOO INDIANS!!!!!!!!!!!

Lightle...you are correct. The onlu unanswered question about this season for Western is guard play. Ithink that is what is going to make this years battle with Eastern so interesting. Your size may negate our strength(inside), but with the Thornsberrry kid move in, will him, Helton, and some of the other guards exploit your weakness?

Time will tell....

i see what your saying but remember that thornsberry is young as well as most of easterns team i look for them to be very competitive but make a lot of mistakes that young players make. but ithink next year you guys have to be one of if not the pick in the soc1

I agree Lightle about next season. I have been blasted by some eagle faithful about that view. Some would say that losing Osborne and Helton will be a big blow(and it will). But, I still think with everyone else losing vital players and with what we will have left, next year will be a better opportunity for us. Still, we should be competitive this year and sneak out a few games that maybe we shouldn't win...

doesn't shanks have a tendency to hang around the perimeter a lot?

Yeah, Shanks does hang around the perimeter, and this isnt the coaches fault. Last year, Shanks didnt exactly want the ball in the paint so all of this "Shanks is being played in the wrong place by the coach" is nonsence. It was either Kier who worked his tail off to get the ball (in the paint) or it was shanks who shyed away from the ball in the paint. Having Shanks on the perimeter was the right move, it abled him to create, which is what he is good at. Now, this year, Shanks will (I believe) dominate in the paint, he should be unstoppable, all he has to do is want the ball. He could average 20+ ppg. :o

This being said, doesnt mean they are going to make a run at the regionals! I hope but....I dont see it happenig...
There is no way they get past Oak Hill, and yes they will have to play them because they arent going to get a 1 seed....
They will give up to many points to be a top notch team.
