Secondly, if I am a Head Coach, I can be present at open gym. However, no "coaching" can go on. The rule is open as such to give the coach present the ability to break up scuffles etc... This, in my interpretation, is not considered "contact".
if its held at a school gym, an administrator can keep anybody they want out if in their opinion, this person may cause a problem. having 21 year olds at a high school open gym just sounds like they are asking for trouble.

sounds like they needed to make room for a player , that wasn't on the team last year.

I was under the impression that we were talking about the legalities of a coach's boundaries regarding open gyms. Of course, administrators can keep people from the gym. Past graduates/older players have been playing in open gyms for years without incident. It is less about age and more so about the temperement of an individual. 16 and 17 year olds don't automatically go hay-wire when they turn 21.
