CLAY @ MANCHESTER
Re: CLAY @ MANCHESTER
I hope none of the fans from Clay got thrown out. Its a fine from the police when you get tossed down there.

Re: CLAY @ MANCHESTER
Manchester is set to play Western late in the season, I think even after the tourney draw. Manchester beat Western last year and got the 2 seed behind them in the seeding. Manchester doesnt have the best record but they have been playing a tough schedule and have yet to be beat by a Div. 4 team. From what I heard about the Clay game is that Manchester starting running subs in more starting in the second. They were doing like 4 in and 4 out the whole third and 5 in and 5 out during the fourth quarter. No disrespect to Clay, Manchester is just a solid team that returned a lot from last years district runner-up team to Oak Hill!

aquaman...that burchett kid doesnt have anger problems and i dont think he has done it at every game ive been to every game and only seen him do it once which was las night. Everyone was angry las night the manchester crowd was throwin stuff at the clay bench and hittin all the players and burchett and the other kid from manchester jus got tangled up and they said a few words who cares. I think he had all rights to do that.

Re: CLAY @ MANCHESTER
I have to agree with cbaseball, the game got out of hand way before the T. clay coach should of packed up his team and went home on a forfeit. kids should not have to sit on the bench and have fans throw things @ them. that's poor sportsmanship. I too have been to many of the games and the kid with the T on him plays aggresive ball. isn't that what forwards r suppose to do? not knocking Manch, they have some good players. just hope the crowd don't ruin it for them

Re: CLAY @ MANCHESTER
Didn't these two have an issue either last year or the year before at Clay?
I agree too that I would have packed my team up, sent them to the lockerroom and then as the coach, came out and told the refs you either get the Manchester fans under control and make them stop throwing things at my players before someone gets hurt or a player goes into the stands (like what happened a few years back at SW) or we pack it up and leave and I'll make sure that you three clowns never ref another basketball game. I'd bet that someone out there has video of this going on. It is uncalled for and if the three refs did nothing about it, then they need to have their referee license revoked.
These are kids whos emotions are already running high because of the whipping they are taking on the court. That could have escalated into something alot worse than it did. I've seen alot of basketball games over the years and I have only seen another teams fans throw stuff at the oppossing teams bench.
If I were Clay this would be the last time I would ever play them. They had issues last year and they had issues this year.
How about we let the kids play the game on the court and the adults act like they have some common sense.
THEY ARE FREAKIN' KIDS FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yabba, U are exactly right. The refs are getting paid good money for 2 hours of work. I agree with you that clay should just not play them again. I'm not sure about whether this has happened in the past or not, (are you talking about the teams or the 2 kids). School sports r getting out of hand. it should be about the players and the parents should be there to support their kids, not act like kids theirselves.
Re: CLAY @ MANCHESTER
Absolutely no excuse for objects being thrown at a teams bench. Refs should have spotted it and had the attending security correct the situation. Usually the home teams AD and principal are in attendance and if they were it would also be up to them to address the situation and start tossing people. No reason whatsoever for a group of high school players to be subjected to nonsense like that.
Re: CLAY @ MANCHESTER
I believe a few years back, the game was close and coming down to the final seconds. Someone from Clays side blew a whistle, the players stopped and Mancehster ended up turning it over because of it. I believe that is what happened, dont quote me on it but for some reason I remember hearing Manchester fans complain about it. If this did happen, they have a reason to complain.
I talked to some fans from Manchester and they said a kid has a rubber band around a towel. He went to waving it above his head and if flew off and out onto the floor. It didnt hit any kid, it went over Clay's bench. They said Coach Palmer told the other coach to not say anything to the fans in fear that they would do something towards him.
It was a hard faught game by both teams and Manchester pulled away in the third. Emotions were high and they said the refs took control in the fourth. This is what I have heard from some Manchester fans and friends of mine.

You are the closest to the truth of all the ramblings on here about things being thrown. A rubber band was thrown on the court. At first, the Clay coaches thought it was a pencil or something like that and wanted to make sure no one stepped on it or slipped. No one was hit. There wasnt multiple things thrown. Manchester fans were loud/complaining (even in a game that was not close). But no harm. Ive seen worse even from Clay fans. The Clay coach only turned around and asked the fans to basically be careful about what they were doing, that someone could get hurt and fans shouldn't throw things.
Coach Palmer could have handled it a little better, but no harm. Manchester and Clay have had a long tradition of playing sports against each other. I would hate for speculation and gossip to ruin the "competitive friendship"
