CC I was being sarcastic with the 19.1 ppg guard making free throws to seal a game because you seem to think offense is all that matters! Btw, I don't have any relatives that are even affiliated with Warren! Just an old alumni that hates critics!

Warren withstood a valiant Athens effort to move on to the Sectional Final with a 65-57 win. Austin Cunningham scored 27 points to lead the Warriors, which improved to 18-3. Devon Sharp led Athens with 16 points. Here's the HH Game Recap!

Warrior C C wrote:Well its here...Tournament time yet again, and Im afraid I am looking for a disappointment as usual...As much as I would like to see these young men go to a state tournament, I just know it will take a miracle...The talent is there, The athleticism is there, The Heart is there, but the chemistry isnt, as well as the strongest team being placed out on the court there.
Starting lineup doesnt matter but with 2 players averaging under 3 points per game, you put yourself against the odds and playing catchup to many times....Then when the strongest team gets you back and into the game, Warriors take a halftime break and start out just like you do at the beginning. Im sorry but that wont cut it, maybe against athens and marietta, but thats it. Ive sat back and watched the Windland boy,Knost boy, Ward boy, Henthorn boy, show time and time again, why they need to be in the game more...Its called PLAYING TO WIN THE GAME! This means putting your best freethrow shooters in the game when the game is on the line...putting your quickest players in when you need that surge...putting your best shooters in the game when you need that scoring...putting your strongest-more aggresive kids in the game when the other team is in foul trouble...
I know its about being Loyal, But at some point, you have to Play your BEST!
Plenty of talent there but why make the community suffer....The people support the team no matter what, but whats wrong with playing your strongest to see how far you can get?
Is it all about hurting someones feelings at this point? When you go to a game and repeatedly hear average people say why is he playing these boys?...Thats getting quite old to hear...same song and dance every year.....Yes we all think were coaches and have the answers, but come on.....its never been so OBVIOUS as it is this year. So Warriors win the next 2 because of talent alone.....but a pure Miracle after that to get past the next round!
Yes the warriors post winning seasons year after year...Coaching has alot to do with that I agree....but Coaching also has another role, and thats to try and bring a banner to the community and the school, stop being so friendly and people pleasing and get past the stinkin Convo Center by coaching SMART....these kids will love you just the same!
So Im positive that this will cause some stink, but 1 day people will realize that a Banner is nice to see at the gymnasium...but its gonna take some GUTS!! THE SUN COMES OUT TMRW
Help me understand. These four players you are talking about - how much do they play? And what specific outcome would have been different had they played more for a team that is 18-3?

somebody from Chesapeake breakes down the 18 - 3 record pretty good. This poster says 18 -3 stinks when you could be 20 -1. That's not a direct quote. It's all in how you look at it. bottom line. Its all hind sight. Warren has had the same "ritual" all year. Start 5. Play 4 more, at the begining of three start 5, play 4 more. The kids know the drill, they know why they play this way, they do it.

You can't speculate. You can't reverse the decision once its made. You do the best you can with the time you are given. If you win fine. If you lose fine. We do it the same way reguardless. That's consistancy, that's how you get to the convo. We havn't figured out how to get past it, but in time, Its gonna happen.

32,16,6: you describe Warren's starting 5/game style as a "ritual". Perhaps that is exactly what Warrior CC is saying. Coach Maddox is definitely a successful coach, but perhaps a bit inflexible with the "ritual"? Maybe the kids know the drill, as you put it, but does that always make for the best strategy? How did that work out for him the last 4-5 games?

It hasn't. It wins league games. When it comes to the really tough teams, it hurts us. Mathmatically you can proove that the starting 5 focus on one maybe three players. The ftour more always out score the 5 because they have "chemistry". The science that brings physical and chemical together. The four more rely on each others strengths and weaknesses. The 5 relies on the strength of one. If you took the 5, took away two, added two from the four, It seems you would have something. You might not. If one of the 5 isn't where he wants to be scoring wise, he shuts down. (Portsmouth) So you see my point now. You see it how you want. Its done this way for a reason. He is trying to do the best he can with what he has. Now, if what he has would do the best they can. We would have less complaints. lol

I don't think its disfunctional. Its glass half full. The optimistic ask questions constructively. The others blurt out. They want to be heard.

It took a while, but it took the last game for me to figure out Who CC is and where he comes from. I have to see things in a different perspective now. The guy has won alot of games in his time. He has had a few seasons of slightly better than 500, but I don't think many others would have had better records with the players he had. I don't agree with how he posts, but thats the way he coached.
You wanna go 20 - 0. You can't lose your first game. "You wanna be on this team, your gonna play your butt off, I don't care who you are." That style of coaching may be a thing of the past. Coach Maddox and Warrior CC are two Very Very different people. It doesn't make either of them wrong, it doesn't make either of them right. What's my piont. If you like CC's style, you wont like Maddox's, if you like Maddox's you won't like CC's. You are allowed to do what you want. It doesn't matter to me. I can finally see both sides. There are a few likeness between the two of them IMO they are both stubborn. They both try to take care of thier players.

The dysfunction i was referring to was dissention, and then when i heard the parents going off on each other in the lobby, dysfunction was what popped into my mind.

They are lucky to have the coach they have. I am a big fan .
