First off im going to say Congrats to Ironton and Good Luck always gotta root for the nearby schools.....with that being said the officiating was awful both ways i mean ironton had 9 fouls in the 1st qtr and we got called for charges and walks that werent walks, so it was bad both ways......SP's intensity was not there tonight....at times it was but not all the time.....Ironton showed up and played with a ton of intensity and just outplayed us at the end....
Great Season SP nothing to hold your heads about.....and again Good Luck to Ironton

... congratulations to the Ironton Tigers on their Sectional title ... this game looked to me to have been lost in the 2nd quarter - Ironton came out of the gates very physcial - had the bodies to BE physical ... So. Point TRIED to be as physical only to be taken out of their game or style of play - Beau Weed picked up foul number 3 in the second quarter trying to be physical - not his game -he sits out the rest of the quarter and the 3rd period as well ... the Pointers lost this one by letting the physical play of Ironton take them out of their game, away from playing what they do best - basketball ... the better "football" team won this one ... best of luck to I'town at the Convo - we'll be their with our support for our SEOAL brethren ...

I agree with the others too...if SP can't make it to the Convo I would much rather see and support a fellow Lawrence County team anyday. So now that the game is over I have no problem rooting for Ironton and wishing them the best of luck in the future.
I don't see how South Point could have won this game with having 25 turn overs!!! That is ridiculous...and it seemed like most of those turn overs were walks, back court violations, bad passes, silly fouls....just those mental type of errors. Not downing the Ironton defense and their effort (they had a lot I am sure) but just saying, I don't see how a team can win with that many mistakes going on. Off night for the Pointers...too bad it was when it counted the most. Ya live and learn and I am so excited to see the next two years for Mayo...he's a class act.

I went back and looked at my 4th qtr post - 10+ of Mayo's points came in the last 3:34 of the game. I should have said "for most of the game.......".manwithplan wrote:[quote="caglewis Mayo held way below his average
I could be wrong, but did mayo have 21 points in this game? If so, how can you say that he was held below his average? I believe he averaged 22 points a game.

Ironton's defense won this game........they forced many of South Point's turnovers with double teams and traps..........I thought the Fighting Tigers did a very good job on Todd Mayo......but this sophomore still had a good game and kept his team in it........Ironton was down 32-26 and then went on a 15-0 run to take command.......IHS did a much better job on the glass in the second half.
South Point still had a great season. It's tough to lose the first tournament game after such a great regular season, but it doesn't diminish in any way what the Pointers accomplished. 20-0 may not happen again, and if it does it might take 40-50 years to do so. With Mayo back next season, SP will field another good team.
Congratulations to the Ironton Fighting Tigers!!
