coaching changes?
Re: coaching changes?
Jumper, from what I understand, there are parents and fans going to the next board meeting on Coach Kitchen's behalf. One guy from West said that he is the best basketball coach they have had in 30+ years, Coach Kitchen is also an excellent teacher. One teacher hired and the benefit would way out weigh any financial concerns of the school, it would be reaped ten fold in excitement, ticket sales and kids that are taught discipline and life lessons on the court, the West board needs to step up and recognize the many benefits to their school from a hire like this!

the way this last year went at west it wouldnt suprise me if they hire kitchen. in a normal situation when the head coach steps down the assistant is moved to the interim.(IU hoosiers this year) west shouldve had the jv coach finish the year then hire a new coach within a month of season end to concentrate on the following year.maybe they wouldve made a tournament run instead of trying to learn a new system the last half of the season. i feel west mest up with the talented group they had they had a great tournament draw (adena) talent v.s. talent i wouldve bet west wouldve won and couldnt take advantage of it. is that coaching? or the kids still trying to learn a new system? whoever they hire i hope its a coach that will play the players that our committed to offseason basketball. i am sure the football coach wouldnt play a kid that didnt work out, or participate in summer camps and passing camps ahead of a kid that didnt participate. to the players if you are reading with the summer schedule the last couple years and little participation it has to be better for west basketball to change

T-blu, your way off base, again. Coaching positions at this district are ALWAYS on a 1 year basis. Last year, certain individuals made sure Hughes would not get the job, Ward needed a job that Green couldn't give him, and Lewis withdrew his name at the last minute. Hopper was the only one left. He got it by default. Things should change next year with new blood on the board. At least that is the hope.
They may just offer 1 year contracts for a coaching position but alot of people on here wanted him gone before the year even started.
Re: coaching changes?
I agree with jumper, the West team would have fallen apart last year and perhaps not even have been able to finish the season, things were in such disarray when Kitchen, Triplett and Arden stepped up. The General must not have seen the difference in the team from start to finish...not only the way they played but the attitude with which they played was a stark difference from the first of the season. One can only hope the board realizes the importance and benefit to the school system to do what ever they need to do to find this coach a teaching position. With Kitchen realizing how important both education and sports are, he is the perfect person to get West a boost in this regard.
