Ironton vs South Point 2/28
Re: Ironton vs South Point 2/28
The thing that sticks mostly in my memory over the years is that whenever Ironton beat an OVC team in any sport, it was always because of "bad reffing" or something else extraneous - not because they [Ironton] simply played better ball!

plain and simple it all comes down to coaching, and Ironton has it ... Coach Lafon is one of the best coaches in this area if not the best. He has toned it down since he went to Ironton from SP and it has helped him. The man knows exactly what hes doing and he runs his system to perfection. Ive seen many, many games over the years I have never seen a coach flat out take all 5 guys off the floor and put in a new 5 to prove a point. I know its been done before but I had never seen it. When he did that it sparked them, SP was in the ball game all night but he knew to pull it out and wasted a full minute off the clock with 3 minutes left. Great coaching wins you games no matter how good of talent you have. Another thing about Ironton that I wish SP had was the fan base, not just students but parents and people who have no relation to Ironton basketball at all are at nearly every game. From my earlier post talking about arrogance and cockiness I can now understand it, whats the saying? flaunt it if you got it or something to that effect. But major props to coach Lafon and his staff.
also on another note I agree with gouk the setup is stupid. I mean I couldnt tell you where crooksville even is, had never heard of them til last season in any sport. So why would they be forced to come play Ironton in Jackson I dont know how far of a drive that is for them but i'm assuming its quite a ways.

I didn't know where Crooksville was at either, I just looked it up and Crooksville is about 10 miles South of Zanesville. It's 79 miles from Jackson to Crooksville and 120 miles from Ironton to Crooksville.

I would agree that the seoal is stronger....but if you dont have the same opponents then that doesnt matter, i give credit to coach lafon because he realized he has to play teams in the sectional to get respect....but i saw the russell game and they werent very good, if u beat everybody in your sectional then you should get first seed, i agree with that but i just think the burg game is what decided the seedings.....and obviously ccoach lafon has played a tough out of sectional schedule, has it given them a lower seed, yes....has it really mattered? no because they have been tested and they know what it takes...so in reallity, i would rather go 12-8 and get a crappy seed but still go to the convo
yes u beat the undefeated sp team, but you lost to the second or third place fairland team

Re: Ironton vs South Point 2/28
no, Id rather get the seed I deserve and play the teams i should. Ironton could have beaten Burg and it wouldnt have mattered. The OVC coaches predetermined who they were voting for. Again, karma. It eventually catches up to you.

Re: Ironton vs South Point 2/28
i see your point 85 but the loss to burg is undeniably one of the factors, 6 ovc votes against everybody else will not be enough to get chessy the 1 seed(there are 14 teams), plain and simple..... why dont you go cry to the people that voted piketon second, or better yet drop the ALMIGHTY RUSSELL team and play piketon
and of course people hate ironton, we are jealous because you get all the transfers, which adds to your already talented city, and you have also burned some bridges while youve been at it, deal with people hating you, it wont change, and how does the three seed have such a terrible schedule compared to the one seed, its high school basketball people
coach lafon is deffinately different than when he was at sp.....agreed

Actually we had more players transfer out of Ironton from last season. This is from the top of my head, there may have been more.
1 was a starter for Rock Hill this year
1 was a starter for South Point this year
2 went to Ironton ST Joe where one starts and the other plays alot.

You are right, that's 5 Basketball players that transferred from Ironton to other schools and are starters at those schools. All people want to talk about are the ones that come to Ironton, they don't know of or here about the ones that have left. That's what kills me.
Re: Ironton vs South Point 2/28
look, if u start or dont even have the ability to start for Rock Hill or Ironton St Joe you aren't a Michael Lamb quality of player, the one who started at SP was only at Ironton for a year and he was from SP, he only went to ironton for that yr bcz he had to, but i will give you the starter from huntington high, but hes probably not as good as Lamb
