Congrats to the men of Oak Hill. Watched your game last weekend, and was very impressed with your team, and the grit, that it took, to beat a very good team in Waterford. Good luck the rest of the way!
Boys just made it home, led into town by 5 or 6 police cars, 3 fire trucks, and about a mile of supporters right behind. pretty awesome sight here in the big town..
Nice job men- show the boys up north what the south is made of so that we can put all that northern talk to bed about how much better that there teams are than ours- bring it back home to the south- good luck
Norm and the Oaks rode the broad shoulders of senior JD Hale to a regional finals victory tonight. It could not have happenned for a better coach and group of kids.
Newark Catholic lived by the 3 point shot the first quarter as the Green Wave made 5 of 6 from beyond the arc to take a 17-8 lead at one point. The Oaks fought back in the second quarter to cut the lead to 4 at halftime. NC had no answer for JD Hale on the inside.
The Wave died by the 3 point shot in the third quarter as they were outscored 15-3 by Hale and the Oaks. Oak Hill continued to dominate inside early in the fourth quarter and built a 44-32 advantage.
But regional victories hardly ever come easily. Just ask Norm's wife, Rita. I felt so sorry for her in the closing hours of the fourth quarter as NC began a comeback. The Oaks suffered through some problems at the foul line, and NC fought all the way back to pull within 3 with eight seconds left. But a free throw by Ondera sealed the trip to Columbus for Norm and the Oaks.
Ondera played an all around solid game for Oak Hill. He took care of the ball, made some key baskets when his team needed him to, and had several assists. Jessie Sloan also had some big buckets and was strong on the boards.
Congrats to all the Oaks and their fans. And to Norm.
