Jackson 77 Athens 65...Morgan Dobbins with 36

Post by Ironman92 »

Jackson finally reaped the benefit of playing better and got a win to end the regular season.

Jackson was led by So Morgan Dobbins who had 36 points. Dylan Newsome played another solid game with 14 points and numerous rebounds. Buescher was in double digits and Merlin Miller was part of the run taht got Jackson going for good as he had a few blocks, rebounds and points in a matter of transitions and Jackson really played great when he was in there. And of course Sr Evan Stacy was all over the court on both ends.

Jackson deserved that win!

Anyone recall the last time a Jackson player had 36 points? Did Howe ever get that high? (Seems like he had 36 for his high)...and I thnk Willie Woodard had 36 in a game as well.

Finally an end to Athens terrible season. I don't think they will find it much better in the TVC.

Congrats to the Ironmen. Glad to see that Morgan played an amazing game...definitely one of the best individual efforts at Jackson in quite a while.

Yes, it will be easier for Athens but not easy.
The state of athletics in the Athens district should be of major concern, obviously it's not!!!
What a shame because I know the athletes are there, they must be developed and athletics must be a priority.
What has happened??????

LOL. Yeah, wish I would have been there. I had actually planned on being home this weekend, but I had to make an unexpected trip to Jackson on Tuesday night. Didn't really feel like driving back down there again this weekend. Now I'm regretting that decision.

We had Morgan unofficially 10-19 from the field(53%), 3of 4 from 3 point range(75%), & 13-17 from the foul line(76%). Not a bad night. He seemed determined that Jackson would win the final game. Buescher and Dylan Newsom also played well. Matt Witten of Athens had 23 on 9 of 17 shooting including 5 3"s.

02, the last player to knock down 30 plus in a game was Vince Jenkins his senior year. I know he had 30 plus on at least two occasions that season and maybe more.

Yeah, you're right. Hard to believe that it has been almost 10 years since Vince's senior season. He was a great player at Jackson.

Now that I think about it, I think Robbie Pugh might have had a game in 2002 where he scored 30 or more. Maybe it was only high 20s, but I'm not sure.

Congrats to Morgan... any chance he might give up golf to concentrate on basketball now? ;-)

I think Jon McDonald had a couple 30 pt games his sophomore year vs Athens and River Valley.

Greg Harris had 39 against Westfall his senior year.

I believe Vince had 30 plus against my first team at Athens. It was the last game of the year and the only win for the Ironmen I believe.

Nobody worked harder than Vince Jenkins. His work ethic in practice was unmatched.

Ex-Jackson coach, family featured in Columbus Dispatch

Post by jottings »

Tony Bornhurst, former Jackson basketball coach and his family were featured on the front page of the sports section in the Columbus Dispatch this morning. Tony was one of Jackson's top hardwood coaches in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He left Jackson for Dublin, and had a successful career in the Columbus area school before stepping down. His daughers were outstanding players. The story was about one daughter who got cancer, and another who is a senior on this year 21-0 state-ranked squad that has had two knee operations in four years.

Those who knew Tony around the SEOAL appreciated his wholesome attitude and sportsmanship.

There should be some rumblings. I got see a few of Athens games this year unfortanately. The coach should spend more time coaching than worrying about the official. He was awful in all 3 games I saw.
