What is happening with RV basketball? Did Layton resign?

This took a long time to come out.

I think all coaches resigned, may have a coach by Nov.

I think all coaches and supplemental contractors in GCLS resign yearly and are then picked back up for the following year if the super so recommends.

I think the supplmental contracts that are held by teachers are rolled over unless there is a reason not too. If you noticed there were several coaches hired at the last board meeting:

Sharon Vanoy-Volleyball River Valley
Beth James-Girls Track South Gallia
Greg Sullivan-Baseball South Gallia
Matt Randels-JV Volleyball South Gallia
Rene Gillmore-Head Girls Basketball River Valley
Gene Layton-Golf River Valley

Those are the coaches that are teachers in the Gallia County Local Schools that coached last year. All the football coaches that were on Coach Deel's staff were asked to resign so that the new coach could pick a staff. Coach Donnie Saunders, Boys Basketball Coach at South Gallia was not hired at this time because he is taking his retirement but is planning on coaching next season. If coach Layton was planning on coming back he would have been hired at the April Board Meeting.

I heard one of the original coaches that coached when RV first opened applied!!! He would be a good guy for the job!!!He knows basketball.

Who were the original coaches at RV when it first opened?

Mike Jenkins-Head Boys Basketball Coach
Chris Ellcessor-JV Boys Basketball Coach
Mitch Meadows-Freshmen Boys Basketball Coach

Not sure that Meadows was on the first staff but fairly sure that Ellcessor was. RV made two trips to the Convo in three years with this staff!

I dont think Mitch is leaving Point and Jenkins isn't coming out of retirement.

Saunders and Brace are hopefully staying at South Gallia. McCarley has doen a good job at RV. Sheets and Ellcessor are good coaches and know basketball.

Mitch wasn't the original freshman coach. I can't remember his last name but we used to call him ALF. He was my coach that year. Ellcessor wasn't the first JV coach either, he didn't come along until my junior year.

Friday Nite fan the original staff was jenkins as the head coach, myself (Ellcessor) as jv coach and alf was stockam and that was the year where I still feel the most exciting Gahs RV game was ever played.
year 2 Jenkins coached, I had to move and Snyder from Rio took my Job and the fresh coach I still dont know who he was, then year 3 I came back and Coached the Jv with Jenkins and Meadows coached his first year there as the freshman coach. Year 1 and 3 we went to the convo and lost, but year 3 we beat Warren Local and they were if I remember right the 1 seed that year at the sectional.
Thanks Future. I dont know exactly who won the GAHS games but RV back in year 2 but in year 1 and 3 in Varsity was 2-1 and JV went 3-0. Coach McCarley the current jv coach at RV did well that first year and had a great game vs GAHS.
So many talented kids went through there those years.

Hey !!! I know the county schools will hire who they want. But if you want someone that loves the game and is not a pay check Coach its Ellcessor!!! He is one of the best and will go the extra mile !!!He coached my Daughter at GA and she could out shoot most boys!!!He takes the game to heart!!! And will turn the program around.
