Thoughts?

These two teams battled all summer. But there's a big difference in summer leagues(where different teams look at different things) to regular season!!! Southern should be one of the better D4 teams around. Should be an early measuring stick for coach Hill and the Raiders!!! Good luck to both!!!

I will take Southern, had them as one of my top D4 teams in SEO. For Southern to win games they have to stay out of foul trouble and box out well. According to the program from the preview they only had two players 6'1 and one was the point guard. The rest of the team were all under six feet, they also only had nine players on varsity.

Southern will win the varsity game by a mile. The other games freshman and jv will be good games.

Getting into foul trouble may cost them a game or two this year, but boxing out well should not. This team will be fundamentally sound and take care of that, and they will be in great shape so 9 players on the roster will only hurt if the foul bug bites them

I would be extremely surprised if the freshman (Wolfe) who played starting QB for the Varsity team at Southern didn't get some playing time for the varsity so they may like 10 deep instead of 9, and he is a TERRIFIC defender.

Should be some great games Friday night! Glad the season is finally here.

Southern- 68 River Valley 53 in OT

Southern wins in overtime and River Valley got their eyes screwed out by the officiating crew form Athens, 4 players fouled out, River Valley was up 6 with about 2 mins left. They made a few mistakes but were clearly the more physical team! Austin Lewis had around 25 river Valley pounded them on the boards! Good job Raiders! This was 2 defensive teams leaving it all on the floor!
Too bad the officials were so heavily involved! Southern is a very good team should be favored to win the TVC.

Yea! Just like the 3rd qtr when RV out scored Southern 14-4?
I think about 1:14 left River Valley was down 5 in ot started fouling and southern stepped up and knocked most of them down.
That is the reason southern outscored them by 15 they prob shot 15 free throws in ot.

hard to compete when 4 starters are fouled out sitting watching. Southern shot almost 30 free throws in River Valleys Gym?
I am taking nothing away from Jeff's Tornadoes nice ball club! River Valley is every bit their equal!
The overtime score was not a reflection of the game!

Southern won the JV game by 6-8 points best i can remember.

Rvbballdude I guess I must have watched a different game. I watched two teams play really ugly basketball and terrible defense. Both teams got beat back door numerous times. Both teams turned the ball over numerous times. Southern shot about 20% from the foul line so foul shots didn't beat you. Southern also had two starters fouled out. How could anyone blame this game on the officiating? Players on both teams running around out of control. I will hope the poor play was from it being both teams first game. If both teams play like this the rest of the year they won't win many games.
