Watched Minford play twice now Burg and Portsmouth and I like their all round play, but they are missing one thing a big man. If this Falcon team had a big man to go with their shooting and quick "D" they would be a force. Also it seems like they blow up with 2 minutes to play both times I've watched them. This was a good win for Ptown after they blew a 12 point lead Friday and lost. I see both these teams making noise in the tournament this coming year. Good Luck to both Minford and Portsmouth the rest of the year.

Good win for ptown boys, but better get things fixed for tourny time,i saw both games this week and what i see is a pt guard who dominates the ball to much and has way to many TOs,a good player but seems to be all about himself, and not a very good attitude, must be willing to get ball to scorers, and run the team, some players not involved at all just looking to see what hes going to do,williams and horne should be 1-2 options, better start rebounding the ball, teams win induviduals will eventually lose,no one player bigger than team, these things can be done and i hope the coaches demand these things and if the kids buy into it it could be a very good year for ptown boys, play as team win or lose talent alone wont do it !Move the ball look for open man and rebound, hope it all happens and go TROJANS!

Very happy to see the Trojans rebound with a win after a tough loss the night before to rival Ironton........Portsmouth played outstanding defense in the 4th quarter, holding the Falcons to only 5 points, while outscoring Minford 15 -5 in those 8 minutes.........PHS is now 3-1 in games decided by 8 points or less..........Minford is a nice ball club, now 6-3 on the year, with all 3 losses by less than 10 points.

Shawn Smith is a very nice shooter, and I like the way Evan Price pushes the ball up the court. The Falcons don't have a lot of size, but they outrebounded the taller Trojans. Portsmouth has to improve their rebounding, as ncballers said.......it's the one consistent weakness on this team..........of course we can improve in all areas, but we have been on the short end of the rebound stats for quite a few games now.

Last year the Trojans had hardly any close wins.......this year they have been involved in several games decided in the last 2 minutes.......and have fared well. I think this is good for the kids as they get closer to the tournament.

Portsmouth is 6-2 today.........and it feels mighty good after going 42-88 the last 6 years. Although we have room for improvement, I always remind myself after every game how far we've come since those dark, dreary days.........I'm thankful that these Trojans have given us some competitive basketball and that we can feel like we have a chance to make a good run in the tournament.

Anthony Williams made a couple of beautiful assists to the weak side when Minford doubled down on him........he zipped passes to Zack Link who was cutting to the basket.........I jinxed Tory Horne by saying he was the only Trojan to score double figures in every game going into the Minford contest.......he scored 7 points against the Falcons, ending that streak........but Tory has played consistently good basketball for us. Good to see Tre Underwood in the game late.......Tre has a toughness on rebounding, and we may see more of him as the season progresses. I thought that Andrew Bendolph played maybe his best all around game, taking some good shots and making good drives to the basket...........but his free throw shooting was off.......I think just an aberration..........but I was happy with his overall play.

I also saw patience in the Trojans' offense last night......the coaches have been emphasizing this to the kids in practice......that good shots will come with some patience.......and last night I thought Portsmouth overall did a good job in that area.

Portsmouth will host Logan at PHS on Friday, then will travel to Jackson on Tuesday, Jan.20. The South Point game will be played on Sat.Jan 31st, while the Northwest game will be played at PHS on Saturday, Feb.7th.

GO TROJANS!!!

Good to see that Portsmouth had only 11 turnovers and forced 22.......quite a reversal from the night before vs. Ironton........As Tobias said, the free throw shooting was 6 of 18, but going into the game, the Trojans were around 68% for the season.......so last night was an aberration.......Anthony Williams did make two huge free throws in the last 2 minutes with the outcome still in doubt.

There is no doubt that the kids and coaches will continue to work hard in practice to fix the things that need to be fixed........I look for the Logan Chieftains to come into PHS on Friday and give our guys in the Red and Blue all they can handle. LHS doesn't have a lot of size but are athletic, and Patrick Angle is as good a guard as there is in the SEOAL.........

GO TROJANS!!!

The Portsmouth freshmen remained undefeated with a close 34-30 win over a good Minford squad.......PHS is now 7-0 on the year, with a game at home vs. Piketon on Wednesday.......I believe the start time is 5:30.........
