Chillicothe at Logan Elm Saturday 12/12

Post by datchillicav »

Both team won their openers rather easily.

Don't know specifics on L.E. but I know that Chilli managed to win big against a quality opponent despite poor free throw shooting and a TERRIBLE job taking care of the ball. IF Chilli can limit mistakes they will be tough to beat by ANYONE. They are vulnerable when they turn the ball over and need to play better to beat a quality L.E. team.

IMO Chilli has a higher ceiling than L.E. but L.E. is probably better at this point in the season. Kellough's teams (and Stiverson's) play their best ball around tournament time so this game doesn't mean the world but it is a nice test early in the season.

IF Chilli takes care of the ball and can handle L.E.'s tough aggressive D, I believe they will win but if L.E.'s defensive pressure bothers the ball handlers for the Cavs L.E. will walk away with a victory, IMO.

What does everyone think?

If I didn't have to work, I would like to watch this game.......but I think it's safe to say that these are two teams that are probably the favorites for a D2 regional berth in Athens.......a good chance they will meet again in March.

I saw Logan Elm vs. Waverly at Zane Trace and was impressed with the Braves, who appear to have a stronger inside game this year with an improved Tyler Pritchard and Logan Hauserman. But the presence of Malik London in the paint for the Cavaliers will be a load for any opponent........hands down the best defensive player in the SE district.

I can't wait for this game; it's great to see such a match up so early in the season at the Spangler. Should be a great one.

I'm interested to see who steps up for Logan Elm as 3 point shooters.

Saw Stiverson at the Xenia game. I'm sure he saw 29 CHS turnovers and started thinking about pressure defense. Could be a interesting night on Saturday.

I'm sure he did. That was(maybe is) the biggest weakness for the Cavs as I have heard. Hopefully they take care of this by Saturday. I was not able to attend because I was out of town doing family suff but I was curious whether Turner started point or whether Magnion started point with Turner at the 2 spot? Anyone care to post the starting 5 from the other day?

The starting 5 from the other night was Mike Turner at the pg,Brandon Beverly was the W,Issac Beverly,Jalen Ragland, and Malik London. Zach Johnson played a lot of minutes....Zach is a stud for only being a Freshman....if Stiverson was there he probably was licking his chops when he seen all those turnovers! That was the only weakness the Cavs had,if they can limit that the game will be good. Logan Elm will take advantage of mistakes so the Cavs will have to be better holding on to the ball.

Thanks. Did Kellough keep a short bench as he usually does around tourney time or did a good deal of bench players get in.

I don't know if it was just experience or not but he just rotated in 2 off the bench. The JV team didn't look too hot either on Saturday. They lack a lot!

Let's go Braves! Beat Chillicothe! I hope that there's a big crowd there tonight for the white out (school website said wear white).

Can somebody tell me if I read this wrong? They said LE beat Amanda Clearcreek 78-26. I know Amanda isn't a basketball school but... wow.

Cavs started out hitting shots in the first quarter and was only down by 5 at the half....after the break Logan Elm kept feeding down low and got whatever they wanted....the Cavs shot poorly in the second half....the Cavs will have to regroup. Malik got abused by Logan Hauserman! Logan Elm is a very well coached team and will make some noise throughout the year.....the Cavs will have to find an identity! Let's hope by next game!

I don't know if I would agree that Malik got abused at all. Hauserman pushed him all over the court but a 350 lb lineman can do that to anybody. I thought that Malik did a very good job on him. He had AT LEAST 4 blocks just on Hauserman maybe more. Hauserman has good moves with his back to the basket and scored on that several times but him pushing Malik out of bounds with his butt over and over again and using his arm to gain an advantage should have been called an offensive foul a few times. Both are good players but IMO Malik got the best of the individual matchup. Hauserman just had WAY more help.

L.E. was huge as a team at every position except point. The absence of Landon and Brandon Beverly and the loss of Donte Thompson really hurt the Cavs tonight. Hopefully Landon and Brandon get their heads on straight and get back so they can help the team by the end of the season.

why were 2 chilli starters not dressed for the game? why was malik posted up at the foul line the whole game? i wasnt impressed with either team as of right now. fouls were called closely on chilli. turner himself had 4 fouls by the 3rd qtr, and LE didnt pick up their 4th foul the entire game until late in the 4th. i have never seen so many moving screens in a game since bobby knights team at indiana. officials were horrible, but i expected it from this crew.......BUT, chilli did NOT deserve to win this game. game plan was quite puzzling.

Malik London is just a sophomore if I am correct, missed half the season last year, and still does not have a year of varsity experience under his belt, however great upside, must work on offense facing the basket, and a 15ft jump shot.

bronc21,

Officiating crew is one of the top notch ones around. Probably hurt us this time, because they allowed alot of stuff to go on. The young Cavs have to keep growing and get more physical. Our inability to 1) Make shots (35%) and 2) Get the ball in the post when it was there both hurt us. LE man-to-man and Zone are very aggressive. Ball movement is critical along with the players movement. Malik got caught up top a few times when he could have rolled to the post. Guards have to do better getting the ball in there.

Overall, I agree both teams have a lot of work to do. Old School coach once told us the first few minutes of the game, the last two minutes of the 1st half and the first two minutes of the second half will make or break you. Cavs simply got beat the last two minutes of the 1st half. We were up 1 (I believe 18-17) and then got outscored by a whole bunch.

As for the kids not dressed, that says enough. Coach goes with what he has got and we are very young (age and experience). This team will be fun to watch, but it will be painful at times. I thought our defense was very good at times and at others we did not do well. Hauserman got position way to many times, but Malik will learn to move his feet and not let Logan get to his body. Refs let Logan bang and IMO, the let Malik aggresively go after some blocked shots. He had plenty and altered quite a few others.

IMO, the team will find its identity over the next few weeks. The Schedule gods got us as after this short trip to LE, we go to Marietta and then back to Ironton on a Friday/Tuesday back-to-back. We won't see the Cavs at the "HAT" for a few more weeks. In the mean time, Cavs fans keep the faith and watch these kids grow.

GO CAVS!!!
