Logan Basketball 2010-11
Just curious as to what people think will play out. First year head coach John Helber begins his tenure as Logan's coach and it will be an interesting year in a solid SEOAL.
Logan JV's have a great group I hear, 16 wins as frosh, could be a fun year for them.
Thoughts?

I know they have a kid that is an exchange student from Germany whos work eithic is pretty amazing i hear. Very good player, fluid. As for other returners; just based on classes; Guess will be a senior, Buckler a senior and moving up is Luke Miller who should score well. Also Rutter the big kid will be back in the middle. Its a rebuilding year I think for Logan but they have a solid group of sophomores and frosh coming up. The JV team will be loaded, and they have good size and athletes.
Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
Let me be clear and realistic 5 -7 wins will be a good start. I will say this Logan team will get younger as the season wear on. Look for many move ups from an outstanding younger group of athletes.

Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
I would guess they wouldnt move anyone up unless injury or late in the year. The JV group plays too well together. Getting them ready to launch the following year would be best imo. Logan could have a pretty athletic group with:
Buckler SG
Miller SG
Rutter PF/C
Guess PG
German kid (6-3, good quickness, solid defender) SF
Thats an athletic, running 5. It would appear Logan needs good role players to play within their roles and not allow the limited playing time to affect the team concept. Check the ego at the door.

JMO - Logan needs to develop a basketball program that doesn't rely
on the football/basketball players.. I know that some football players are
very good at basketball (we can see that in the recent years) but in order
for the TEAM TO DO WELL, most players need to commit to BB year round..
You can't insert football players into a line up and expect them to work
as a team just because they have basketball talent.
Logan has the kids to accomplish this. Again, this is my opinion...

Based on the possible lineup I see; 4 out of the 5 starters, again possibly; dont play football.
The other plays soccer. Of the JV kids, none play football. A few play golf, but their season ended 2 weeks ago so they have been in the gym already. And I think the 9th grade kids have had over 10 kids out to every workout so far with only 4 or 5 coming from football when its done.

Are you suggesting that Logan should discourage kids from playing more than 1 sport?javagt wrote:JMO - Logan needs to develop a basketball program that doesn't rely

No, not at all ... I just think that team cohesiveness can suffer.Orange and Brown wrote:Are you suggesting that Logan should discourage kids from playing more than 1 sport?javagt wrote:JMO - Logan needs to develop a basketball program that doesn't rely

Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
I wonder what would be a good age to make a child choose one sport over another? How about parents never let their child participate in more than one sport, that way there is no decision to be made.

Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
A few seniors not mentioned such as Derek Montgomery, Ryan Cassady, John Teal, Matt Yeske, Dylan Cavinee and Josh Vorhees. I have heard most of these are playing. Juniors that are probably still in the mix not mentioned above would be Nik Wotring, Kelly Long and Ronnie Webb. Good luck to Coach John Helber and his staff.
Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
I hope they all do well ... I'm going to try to make it up for a couple of games this year ....

Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
Its my understanding, Cassady has been a no show so far after a couple weeks of conditioning, as well as Vorhees. So nobody knows if they are even playing. Wotring will add some depth at the PG and Long is athletic.
Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
I've been told Vorhees isn't playing, but I hope thats not true. Would like to see him play his sr. year. Cassady is in work release from school this year and should be back first of Nov. He's been there at least once, maybe twice. He went to OU team camp and some other summer stuff. Helber is a good coach and has been with the Logan program for quite some time, was glad to see him get this opportunity! JV's should be strong.
Re: Logan Basketball 2010-11
Football is over tonite! So let the fun begin. If we finish around .500 or close, it will be an outstanding season. Look for a youth movement to begin about midseason.
