Athens vs Logan Elm

Post by SOHSP »

I realize Athens hasn't even hit the hardwood yet (first game cancelled and they do play home gems next Tuesday and Friday) but it isn't too early to start talking about the big matchup in The Plains Saturday - Logan Elm vs Athens. Great match up between two outstanding SE ohio teams. Logan Elm thumped Amanda 83 - 24 last night and should prove to be a tough early season test for the Bulldogs.

Let's talk some hoops. What does everyone think?

I was at the LE vs Amanda game last night, they play extremely hard nose defense (as usual) they are not very big so they try to make up for that with being very aggressive. If they are hitting the outside shots they are going to be very difficult to defend, but don't expect very much post play tallest kid on the team is 6'2". They pressured Amanda so hard in the first half, I thing the refs were exhausted...lol. Should be a great game come Saturday.

... I'm going to travel to Round Town to see Logan Elm play Coach Goodyear's Circleville Tigers Friday night , then take in Chesapeake vs Logan on Saturday (12:45 at URG) then round out the weekend by watching 2 of the best teams Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line in Logan Elm @ Athens ... that's a great couple of days.evenings of hoops ...

Logan Elm is a much better shooting team than a year ago, the addition of Ridge Young with brother Dillon Young by itself spreads the floor with 2 outstanding shooters , but the other Braves have upped their games as well Logan Thompson/Trent Congrove are outstanding ... EVERY player that see the floor comes out moving their feet, checking defenders, getting in the passing lanes, pushing the ball in transition ... Coach Stiverson & Coach Holbert KNOW how the game should be played and they get everything out of their TEAM ...

STIVERSON returns to McAFEE GYMNASIUM!!!

Wonder if he will have his old Chieftain jersey on underneath his LE sweater?

... 93dog ...both Logan Elm and your Bulldogs are starting to gear up for their trip South here in just a couple weeks !!! ... any possibility they will meet in bracket play in FLA ?

... the Logan Sectional is going to be brutal with one of my top 3 teams NOT making it to the Convo ... hard to believe THAT could happen but it will ... it's Thunderdome like - 3 teams enter, 2 teams advance

Logan elm keeps it close if they can control the pace, hopefully Logan elm doesn't shoot well that night

93, this question is for tomorrow night's Bulldog game. Do you know if it's a triple header?

With all the weapons that Athens has and add playing in The Plains usually I'd say Athens wins but "Not So Fast My Friend" Coach Stiverson's LE squad is a veteran group. They won't shrink from the challenge. I think the key to the game will be how well the role players respond in a big game situation. Zacciah Saltzman may play huge for the Bulldogs. The sophomore guard gives Athens that's extra shooter than can hurt you. Defenses have to respect Watson & Borrows. Gameplan to "slow" them down. That's gonna create opportunities for teammates. Patience will be huge as well. Whichever team can find a way to best execute the gameplan will win this huge battle. LE will defend Athens no doubt. The key will be can Athens show that patience, stay mentally focused and execute the gameplan? If they do those things the talent they have will lead them to victory.

The question everyone is missing is can these two teams top the combined 129 points that were scored by the two football teams in the playoff game? :122246 :122246 :122245 :122245

Athens' size and length are going to cause Logan Elm some problems. Logan Elm doesn't have a lot of size and is more of a perimeter oriented team. Logan Elm needs to hit its shots and dictate a faster pace in this one. A big key will come on the glass.

Like to see how Lutz for Athens plays against a veteran Logan elm team. He looks like a true point guard. What Athens needed last year and Ibi is so much better this year

4 of the starters for Athens are 6'4" or taller. Burrow might really be 6'3" though.

Circleville typically has rosters and programs.

When you come to Athens Saturday ... you'll get a hand shake, a pat on the back - and if you're lucky maybe a bag of twizzlers, Floyd.

BUT ... the Athens roster in on the Athens team page ... http://trivalleyconference.com/Athens.html

After watching the Bulldogs tonight take on New Lex, I am more excited than ever about Saturday's match up and the season in general. This team has a chance to be special. The only two concerns I can see at this point are 1) is there enough "ball" to go around with all of their scores and 2) even though they have height all over the floor, will their lack of a true post (back to the basket) player come back to haunt them late in the season?

Scorers everywhere, height, quickness, experience and depth. Great team and should be fun.

We used to have the best programs in the area! Minimal ads and a ton of info, then the people who put them together no longer had family play and they stepped away and no one picked up the ball! I may have to get on it for next year.

On this game, I think Athens will be favored, but I love Dillon Young's game! He's evolved every year and he's a lot of fun to watch.

With Warren getting beat Tuesday by Portsmouth, and the confirmation coming today that SE ohio will only have one regional rep at the Convo this year, makes me even more excited to watch this early season game.

With Athens, Warren and LE all coming through the Logan sectional - all I can say is wow! Who wins Saturday night and why?
