Athens schedule update: SEOAL teams drop Athens

Not sure what is going on with the SEOAL - but the teams have suddenly dropped Athens from their schedules. They have been playing the Bulldogs every year since Athens left for the TVC, so that is not the issue ... they just don't want to play the green-and-gold next year or the year after for some reason?

UPDATED DROPS 2013/2014

Logan dropped its 2 games with Athens.
Gallia Academy dropped its game with Athens.
Jackson dropped its game with Athens.
former SEOAL member Marietta dropped its game with Athens.

* All games were scheduled to be played in 2013/2014, they called and cancelled leaving coach Skinner and Chuck Robinson (AD) in a bind trying to fill the dates.

UPDATED ADDS 2013/2014

Athens will now play Ironton at the Ironton Classic.
Athens will travel to 'The Beasts of The Southeast Classic' at Chesapeake. Opponent T.B.A
Athens will travel to ASVSM to play the DII state runner up.

* because of the drops, Athens was forced to go on the road and make trips to Ironton, Chesapeake and Akron (and they already have 3 games scheduled in Orlando Florida).

Athens also added a home game with Circleville.
Still one date to fill ... Johnstown and Westerville North are possibilities.

UPDATE FROM THE COLUMBUS SUMMER LEAGUE

Athens defeated Hillard Davidson Tuesday night by 13, and lost to New Albany by two without Adam Leuhrman, who sat out the second game after getting banged up in the first.

8. BEASTS OF THE SOUTHEAST (all teams are usually pretty good on Saturday down in Chesapeake.)
9. CIRCLEVILLE
10. VINTON COUNTY - DII district finals team.
11. VINTON COUNTY - DII district finals team.
12. JOHNSTOWN/WESTERVILLE NORTH?
13. NELSONVILLE-YORK - (16-6) last year with a lot of its key players back.
14. NELSONVILLE-YORK.

Now if Athens didn't cut and run from the SEOAL, all those teams would be forced to play the Bulldogs. :122249

On a serious note, the real problem is going to probably be a lack of home games for Athens, that's the unfortunate thing. Overall, playing all of those tough teams will help the Bulldogs by the end of the season and going into the tourney. Are they going to take some lumps along the way, probably, but they are going to be ready for the different styles they'll see when they get to the tournament, where most expect to see a long run. Warren got drilled by Upper Arlington in a non-league loss last year, but playing that type of competition makes you better. And at the end of the day, what the Warren folks are going to remember is making that trip to the Final Four.

Now how about some love for my Pickaway County schools - Logan Elm is coming into The Plains, along with Circleville this season. We aren't ducking and covering. :-D

On a side note, Logan Elm will also be making the trip to Orlando, so we'll have two SE District Division II teams playing down there. I believe we both need to raise some funds and go ourselves, so we can get some December sunshine. I can cover the games for the paper and you can do them on radio. :122249 :122249 :122249 :-D :-D :-D :-D

I'll save you a seat at McAfee Gymnasium bman ... right next to 93Dog on press row buddy (which is a very expensive seat and in high demand these days ... lol) ... you can keep your stats right their at the table - and listen to the live broadcast ... not sure it gets any better than that ...

Now you can't say I never did anything for you ...

On the Orlando trip ... excellent idea!!! 93Dog, bman, Daffy, Mickey .. all we need is Pfloyd and the cast of characters would be complete ...

Where is pfloyd going to sit? He should have that inside access to the high roller seats. I'm sure he is going to want to see at least that LE-Athens clash and maybe get his first look at the revamped Circleville Tigers, as well.

Until Floyd hands over that #1 ranking ... he can stay in the 'cheap seats!'

lol

I don't know what is going on here either but I was not a fan of Athens scheduling Jackson for the final two games after the draw in softball and then canceling the game at Athens and then Athens called and canceled the game AT Jackson and refused to come to Jackson to make up the game (completely messing up senior night)

That's a brutal scheudle, all right. It will definitely get them ready for the post-season.

Fwiw, that wasn't Davidson they played last night. It was a fill-in team. One of those kids (the little one with the handles), I believe, started as a freshman at one of the Westervilles and another (the bigger bodied kid) started at Marion Franklin. I don't know where most of the others came from though. On the other hand, the way kids move around the city, they might all be at Davidson next year!

93Bulldog: Very proud of Coach Skinner to schedule your Bulldogs playing at Akron SVSM! The schedule looks really challenging, but it will only make the Green and Gold better and more prepared for the tournament. The Trojans will also be going to Orlando in December to play in the KSA Classic. We went 2 years ago, and went 2-1, playing in the big school class.

To say I'm stoked about that game is a gross understatement ... I will be covering ALL Athens games this year on 970 WATH - so a trip to Akron is in the fold for 93Dog as well ... Burrow, Watson, Saltzmen going up against V.J. King and ASVSM ... AWESOME!

Oh yea, I'm kinda looking forward to that trip to VINCENT as well ......

DISAPOINTED AGAIN I think we got something you want lol. By the way ill bring that HVBL Trophy from back in '2009 for you to see.

I'd like to find that sectional title trophy, from Cunningham's last second shot to beat the 'Dogs, and throw it in the Ohio river!

I'll put it on the 'to-do list' for when I visit WHS this winter ...

To put into perspective what kind of jam (the teams who dropped AHS) put the Bulldogs in ...

They have to TRAVEL to AKRON on Friday, Jan 10th for an 8:00 pm game against on of the best DII teams in the state of Ohio ... then be down in Chesapeake Ohio the very next day for the Beasts of the Southeast Classic ... talk about covering some ground in a 24 hour period ... and those games will take place approximately 10 days after they get back from Florida.

Sounds like there needs to be a feature on how many miles the Athens Globetrotters will log this season to play a full schedule.
