I keep hearing Warren is down some, hard to believe. Athens not a great showing at Gallia.

This game will be telling and IMO the losing team might be in for an around .500 season

I will not call Warren way down, but they are definitely down in the early part of the season with tons of new players. As for Athens being down, really? Months of post about all this talent, size and depth, you start 0-2 and now all the sudden you are claiming they are “down”.

Anyway, my prediction is Warren will struggle on the road in Athens, and Athens gets well from their rough offensive start to the season.

Well could this possibly be the year that Athens finally gets the BIG BAD BLUE proverbial monkey off their backs?
I think not! Yes Warren is not the usual juggernaut of talent. Josh Huffnan 6’5” F is a legit D2 kid and will be the best player on the floor. The key will be can the Warrior coaching staff find some other offense to go along with Huffman. Troy Huck could be another option. The kid jumps outta the gym but hasn’t played basketball for a couple years. A natural athlete with a little “juice” could be THAT guy.
Personally I think youngsters could be an option.
Warren has 2 freshman Seth Dennis 5’8” Pg and Makiah Merrit a 6’4” Wing May be able to provide some offensive firepower. Gandee a So SG can be deadly beyond the arc I look for him to start getting more minuets as well.
All in all the MAIN weapon the Warriors possess is that Warrior coaching staff. Maddox will be looking for win #300 on Tuesday. I look for him to find it.
GO BIG BAD BLUE

Jimmy Patton for Watterson is a lot like Huffman.

Patton had 24 points Saturday, a bunch of rebounds and three dunks.

'Dogs need to find a way to stop the opposing teams big man or it could be another tough night. Not to mention Maddox was sitting in the 3rd row Saturday, I'm sure he was taking notes on how Patton was able to roam free in the middle of the zone all night.

You hate to say game three of the season is a 'must win' for a team, but it sure feels that way for Athens. They are at a bit of a crossroad, beat Warren (DII Logan sectional team) and River Valley (league game) this week and you can say you're (2-0) in meaningful games. Gallia/Watterson won't really hurt you in the grand scheme of things.

I already told you our toughest stretch were the first three games

Really don't know what to think at this Point. Still waiting for some players for Athens to "show up". Last year I thought Justin Hynes and company done a good job against Huffman and Chase Wiehl. Kyler Dennis with his Speed and shooting-killed Athens, I think he had 26 last year. Warren also done a good job shutting down Lutz last year. If Athens can get their turnovers under control and get some shots to fall they can do this. Hoping the ship gets Righted tomorrow.

Let's just hope some adjustments have been made that opens up the shooting a bit and the Bulldogs start taking more quality shots. Part of the Dog's main problem has been the turnovers at the top. Not getting rid of the ball two steps before the defender gets in the guards faces or just their in ability to dribble without looking up. That applies two deep at those positions. Points off turnovers have been the primary difference in each of these games and being out of position on shots taken.

If Athens comes to play like they are capable of (some attitude and confidence), being at home, this should be a good game and could be a good kick off going into region play. Just my 2 cents.

Mattox gets his 300th Win as Warren comes back from a 28-24 deficit at the half. Final score 61-38 Warren Warriors. Stud Josh Huffman has another huge night and gets 25 points In tonight's Contest. In The last 3 games The opposing Big Men have scored in the Mid 20s on the Bulldogs. Athens goes to 0-3 on the season and Warren evens up at 1-1....River Valley comes to the Plains on Friday...Will Athens get their 1st Win???

Great halftime adjustments by Coach Maddox and staff. I think Athens going man caught Big Bad Blue off guard, once they settled down the game was theirs for the taking, worked the ball hit the open man off the screens and had great floor spacing. Well done Warriors!
