Tough game. I think Eastern is good enough at basketball to withstand what Ironton will bring.

Re: D3 District - Eastern Brown vs. Ironton
I have not seen Ironton play. Actually as I peruse the archives of this year's postings, Ironton hasn't been on the radar much. That is what intrigues and scares me
It seems like they are peaking at the right time, and that judging by the comments, whenever Ironton is mentioned the word "Physical" is ALWAYS mentioned. Is this dog-whistle code for they play rough, or are they just a team of big strong kids? My question to those that have seen Ironton this year, is can they run? Eastern Brown had a weird game Saturday where they were all uptight in the first half and then came to life offensively and just LOCKED DOWN Portsmouth the second half. How would Ironton do in a track meet style game?

Well one of their main players is the #1 inside LB recruit in the nation and is going to Ohio St. They will be quick and athletic too. Well coached. I’ll call them a strange matchup. Sometimes they can’t score real well. Coach Beucler will have them ready.WonderNova wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2020 12:31 pm I have not seen Ironton play. Re: D3 District - Eastern Brown vs. Ironton
Some thoughts/facts on the matchup:
Ironton vs. Portsmouth this season: at Ironton 62-61 Tigers won; at Portsmouth 53-33 Tigers won (second game two weeks ago) Can't necessarily go by these scores in determining this matchup because of the Trojans' inconsistent play. Portsmouth scored only 12 points in the 2nd half in the 2nd game, and lost a 10 point lead with 3 minutes to go in the first game.
Starters for the Fighting Tigers: 6-3 JR Reid Carrico (tough to handle inside--going to Ohio State for football), 5-11 SR Jordan Grizzle (excellent shooter), 6-3 SR Trent Milleson (can shoot the 3 or go inside), 6-1 SR Gage Salyers (QB in football--good athlete), 6-0 SR Collin Freeman (probably best defensive player).......this was the starting 5 for the game at Portsmouth 2 weeks ago. Grizzle and Milleson are the biggest 3 point threats.
Ironton won at Wheelersburg 56-47, one of only 2 Pirate losses. Ironton finished 4th in the OVC with an 8-6 mark. Lost at #2 D3 seed Zane Trace 54-50 two weeks ago, led with 3 minutes to play.
Eastern Brown will have to play a lot better vs. Ironton than they did vs. Portsmouth. A bad half by the Warriors and they might not be able to come back like they did vs. PHS. The Fighting Tigers will a tough challenge on the boards for EB.
Overall, Ironton is a team of very good athletes that will D up hard. Not a great team offensively, but good enough. Very well coached to their abilities. Tempo wise, Ironton will try to keep it a half court game.

It should be noted that due to football Ironton got started a month after everyone else. Most of the guys Trojandave mentioned played football.
They are starting to peak at the right time.

Exactly what I was going to say. Slow start because of football. Ironton is tough and physical and carrico and saalyers are just great athletes and that what it takes to win to these types of games.TheFlyingDutchman wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2020 5:06 pm It should be noted that due to football Ironton got started a month after everyone else. Tough matchup for ironton. I believe they play like burg and Chesapeake. All five can score. Ironton will have to slow it down and be physical. Hopefully the length of court dont hurt ironton in this one.

Re: D3 District - Eastern Brown vs. Ironton
Ironton won this game with good 3 point shooting and a defense that completely rattled the Warriors. The Fighting Tigers' OVC and non-conference schedule certainly looked like it made a big difference in this game.
Re: D3 District - Eastern Brown vs. Ironton
This is exactly what happened. Good ball movement, strength and rattled the warriors the first half. Two buckets by Ironton after the half and Eastern came up empty. Irontons girth at guard affected the warriors as well. They could keep the pressure on ,but; the strong hands and hips of the Tigers kept them at Bay. Super hard to stop a big body that knows how to use it. Congrats Tigers. Well played !!wobycat wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2020 12:19 pm Tough matchup for ironton. In conference: Fairland 2x, Chesapeake 2x, South Point 2x, even Gallia 2x and Portsmouth 2x are both dangerous.
Out of conference: Africentric, Alexander, Spring Valley (would be D1 in Ohio), Elliot County, Wheelersburg, Zane Trace
Brutal schedule which has paid dividends.

Re: D3 District - Eastern Brown vs. Ironton
Didnt they have 7 3 point field goals in the first half and like 1 or 2 2's? Thats what won it! What did they shoot from the field?
Also EB was off all night...just couldnt put anything in.
If you get 3 or 4 10 second calls in the 2nd half, have 14 turnovers and still win by 15+ that other team had a rough night!

Ironton was much better than EB. EB got the ten count 3-4 times but couldn’t finish to save their life. Second half I think Ironton hit 1 three. A lot of easy baskets driving to the lane.
Ironton 7-11 from three in the first half.
Ironton wins this game 8/10 times
