Pre-Christmas Awards

Post by Hookshot »

Decided to offer some early-season before Christmas Awards -- Southeast & East Districts

*Best Team -- Minford (Honorable Mention Meigs, Hiland)

*Biggest Turnaround -- Steubenville (10-13 last year) started off 5-1 this year and very tough.

*Biggest Surprise -- Marietta (5-0) with key wins over Warren and New Philadelphia plus ultra-convincing wins in its other games.

*Best Team with Losing Record -- New Philadelphia (3-4) with losses to opponents with combined 20-4 records.

*Best Team with One Win -- Logan Elm (1-7) with two OT losses and a tough early schedule.

*Best Individual Performance -- Brayden Jones of Marietta with school-record 49 points on 13 of 19 3-point FGs playing 19 minutes.

Quick responses:
1. Best: Add Miami Trace and Monroe Central as HM.
2. Turnaround: No disagreement there.
3. Surprise: For now, maybe Marietta. Others close.
4. Losing Record: Yes, New Philly.
5. One Win: No idea.
6. Best Individual: Has to be Jones 49 but no running clock.

Couple additional categories:

A. Other Very Good Teams That Could Be Great
-Tri Valley -Maysville -South Webster -Coshocton -John Glenn
-Warren -Marietta

B. Interesting Games This Week We May Learn From
-Belpre v. Athens
-Logan Elm v Fairfield Union
-Warren v Monroe Central
-Warren v Fairland
-Fed Hocking v Crooksville
-Cambridge v John Glenn

I’ve seen minford twice. I think Webster will give them all they want and then some. This teams better than last year.

Interesting take on your new categories. Really interested in Tri Valley and Coshocton -- not sure they make the cut but if others have info I hope they'll share what they know. For different reasons, your "interesting games" may help sort out where some of these teams are headed.

Chillicothe is another good under .500 team, at 3-4, they have competed well with a very strong schedule.

Good point, yes, a very tough schedule to be at 3-4. I think New Philly is likely stronger and plays a more difficult schedule, but Chillicothe's record to date is misleading.

I caught a live stream of Steubenville, very good team. Their guard play is outstanding. The coaches son is a sophomore and they got the Davis kid from Wheeling Park and the other guard it said was a multi year starter for Linsly. They’ll be a tough out
